What's the best way of finding out which foods trigger eczema in bf baby?

I assume DS's eczema (5mo) is caused by something in our house or something in my diet.

Who is the best person to see about finding out the cause? Naturopath? Dermatologist?

Has anyone simply kept a detailed food diary and figured out what triggers the eczema by themselves? This is what DH thinks we should do (cheapest option!)

But I don't know where to start.

I've already cut out dairy as it was affecting his digestion, and this has helped his tummy but not the skin.

I have a suspicion that the eczema happened after his jabs. But that might be coincidence.

Part of me hopes it's just the cold weather drying his skin out (esp as it's mainly his face) and that, come spring, things will improve by themselves.

I'd welcome your advice.

I was convinced my son was allergic to dairy (puking loads) so went to the GP who sent me to a paediatrician. I was all excited thinking they could do some tests and I could come home with an answer. What really happened is he did a skin spot test for dairy protein - which came back negative. he then said the only definitive way to tell if something is causing an allergic reaction is to do (I think he called it) a crossover test. You have to remove the suspected allergen from your diet for 10-14 days and show the response has gone. Then you reintroduce it for 10-14 days and show the response comes back, and then remove it and then reintroduce it. If it definately disappears and then reappears with your diet then you've proved it. You have to do it twice as something else could cause the trigger once and you wouldn't know.

My son actually puked more when I removed milk from my diet so that proved it wasn't the milk for me and him.

You could also contact allergy uk who can give you lodas of advice.

Good luck with it all.

all babies are different i know that's not much use but the jabs Could have caused it. did it start after them? i looked after a little boy who had terrible eczema it seemed that he was given ABs at birth and the homeopath thought that was the prob.

my ds was cured of mild eczema by homeopathy and me not giving acid forming foods like orange juice etc. dairy etc. this was obviously after he had started solids.Good luck.
