Omeprazole/Losec for reflux

DD (12 weeks) started a daily 5mg (half tablet) dose of Losec last Thursday. She had been on 2x1ml ranitidine a day. The GP thought her unsettledness may be due to reflux and prescribed Losec. My hunch is that her issues are more related to intolerances (very mucusy nappies, despite me being dairy, soy & gluten-free).

Since then she has been even more unsettled than usual with a sore belly. She cries in a straining kind of way. She's always been a windy baby, but it seems that the wind is less mobile and she is more resistant to me trying to help it out with massage/leg movements, etc. She has also been frantically sucking her fingers, is resistant to sitting positions preferring to be straight, arches her back when lying, won't stay asleep for long.

Some of these things cry reflux to me (arching, etc.) but it doesn't make sense if she is on omeprazole.

Can omeprazole cause really sore tummies?

Side-effects of omeprazole are projectile vomitting and diahorrea. It takes about a month to settle down. However, reaction to allergy can be mistaken for reflux. You could try a completely allergen free diet (pref under advice of a dietician) and then see how that goes, and slowly reintroduce foods.

The warning to this is an allergen free diet is v. restrictive - basically lamb, rice and selected vegs.

I take omeprazole and I can't say I notice any tummy ache,I am on 20mg twice a day.

Looking at the side effects listed in my last packet they do list diarrhoea, drowsiness, wind, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.
Also they list imsomnia which I do suffer from.

It may be worth mentioning it to the doctor. They say these are common (affecting less tan 1 in a 100.
