asthma trigger/ allergy?

Does anyone know the difference between an asthma trigger and an allergy? i.e could it be possible not to be allergic to something (proven by tests) but for the substance to still trigger asthma?

My ds has just moved to another childminder and his asthma seems to be flaring up, tryig to work out if its a coincidence or not.. driving myslef mad in the process!

Thanks

I think it's possible. Some asthma triggers are not related to allergy at all, eg. viral infections.

TBH I don't think those allergy tests are 100% reliable anyway. More of a guideline What kind was it? skin prick test?

My other thought is that it's possible to become allergic to things as time goes by. If your ds is going to a cm, I imagine he is still quite little. I didn't become allergic to cats until I was a teenager, because I wasn't exposed to cats much as a young child.

Thanks. My ds is 3. so hard to tell - typically he started with her as he was getting over a cold so pulling my hair out trying to work out what might have caused it.

They used to have a dog but it died 6 months aago, surely that couldn't still have an
affect?

My dd's asthma triggers are smoke, scented candles, air fresheners, incense, dust, pollen, furry animals and very cold air.
Any of these ring a bell?
It took me a few weeks before I realised about the candles, incense and air fresheners.
