If anyone with more knowledge on this subject could help my poor 14 yr old son would be extatic!
I'll try to make it brief;
ds1 has always suffered from hayfever badly, itchy swollen red eyes, and occational asthma when he's had virus or throat infection in hayfever season.
last july he had a sore throat, next morning he woke with a swollen face. His top lip was huge and his bottom lip, nose and cheek one side were all swollen.its hard to explain how bad it was,he looked deformed.
1 doc said glandular fever,1 said allergic reaction to bacteria in throat.lasted 5 days.
has had 6 more episodes of varying degrees,1 just his eye ,all others same place but sometimes just his lip.was refered insept to derm who refered to allery pead who cant see him till april and doesn't do private,no-one in our area does.
the last attack was as bad as first and he is missing lots of school,so do I take him to London to see a spiecalist under ourhealthcare policy or wait? Im worried that if his throat swelled when Im not with him he would leave it too long to get help.
he eats a varied diet and we cant see any link to food.
sorry its so long,thanks.

phone your healthcare provider

they will have allocated specialists that you are allowed to use in certain hospitals

let me know if you have a list from them and I can tell you if I know of them (we saw a few with dd/ds)

Laine4kids · 12/02/2010 16:16

we are with wpa and they let you see anyone with a referal.
depending on waiting times I was thinking of
George du Toit, adam Fox or someone at the london allergy clinic.
any thoughts? is this urgent do you think?

yes I think you should take him soon if you have the means to - he is missing school and it's affecting his quality of life

I haven't seen either of those but have heard of George Du Toit - he sounds perfect for what your son needs

have they told you how long your appointment will take locally?

This website will provide a list of allergy specialists in the country NHS and Private.
www.bsaci.org/
We've seen Prof Jonathon Brostoff who was great with my dd.

George du Toit has an excellent reputation

try Dr Roti Roti at the Royal Nose, Throat and Ears hospital at greys inn road - by kings cross. i htink her title is head of Allergy, Immunology and maybe dermatology - anyway - she and her department are fantastic. good luck!

Laine4kids · 12/02/2010 20:47

has anyone got any experience of his symptoms?
thanks for the posts so far-I'll check them out.
