Just to let you know the new dates and information is out here.

Brilliant for DCs with asthma/eczema and allergies/anaphylaxis.

That looks really interesting for when DS1 is a bit older (now 6 so too young)... thanks!

Thanks for that, we can't afford it this year but I'll keep it in mind for next, DS could do with some independence/self-confidence building.

Out of interest, has anyone's DC been on one of these? I told DH about it and because of DS's anaphylaxis I think he'd be happier hearing what it's like from someone who's been.

PootleTheFlump · 11/02/2010 10:50

I used to volunteer on them (asthma/eczema myself) and know loads of the current staff/volunteers, but can't give a family perspective. Am sure if you spoke to Asthma UK they would be able to put you in touch with a family who have sent a DC so you could find out what they think.

Skip - no one is excluded on financial grounds, you are only asked to pay what you can afford, definitely worth getting in touch with them if money is the only barrier.

Thanks for that - we earn way too much to qualify for help though, just broke through our own overindulgence .

Did you have kids with food allergies then? DS can't have milk/eggs/nuts/lentils, history of anaphylaxis, so we'd be nervous as hell letting him go. At the same time, if he knew he was in a safe environment it'd do him the world of good to spend time away from us, plus we have to start letting go. Holidays generally are a right pain, no matter how much I check we always seem to come across problems; no feather bedding = sofa stuffed with feathers, no pets allowed = owner lives next door with 5 cats and so on.

I shall have to give them a call and find out when they'd need the money. I should really do this, you can tell I'm nervous the way I'm wittering on here !

Haha skip, know that feeling, and I have just discovered Waitrose online...

Yup, loads of food allergies, lots of epipen carriers. Many children with severe allergies to dairy/eggs/nuts (lots of the staff have these probs too) and the sites are checked, checked and checked again, there are nurses and doctors with the children at all times and all staff are trained in epipens etc. All the children on the hols know what it's like to get ill so are very careful with each other and understanding of not spilling drinks/washing hands/wiping tables etc. You will not be the most nervous parent involved!!

Def give them a ring and chat it through

Sounds brill! I am calling them now, I guess I'll have to give up chocolate or something to save up, that should do it double quick!

And I don't dare do Waitrose Online, it's bad enough going round the shop with one of those self-scanners, thinking 'oh never mind, I'll put it on the card and pay for it next month plus I get all those lovely vouchers'. I am a bad, bad girl.

PootleTheFlump · 11/02/2010 22:53

Hope it works out and your DS gets great benefit, as am sure he will

The voucher thing is sooooooo seductive, makes all those treats seem virtuous . In fairness, we save them up and do most of our Christmas shopping with them, so buying goodies is actually a Christmas saving schemes .
