excema around eyes of DD...what should i use

Dd1 aged 4 has always has excema on arms and legs and slowly it has reduced to flare ups. In the last six months we have had excema around eyes which she never had before. This is battle we are losing. there seems to be no way of tackling it. at the moment we use sudocream which seems to moisturise the best in this area but concerned about using this close to eyes.

we have tried aveeno ( which i think her skin is just now used to so it doesn't do anything for her anymore); epaderm, doublebase and 50:50. We used 0.5% HC out of desperation a while back which cleared it up (but of course it came back when our GP told us how dangerous it was to use it in this area so we stopped)

anyone else have experience of tackling excema around the eyes. TIA

I get eczema on my upper eyelids for which I was prescribed Fucidin. It was v effective but I'm no longer allowed it as it's a steroid (albeit a mild one) and so thins the skin. I no just smother them regularly in aqueous cream. I can understand why GPs are reluctant to prescribe steroids but sometimes they are so effective you don't need to use them very often. Have you ever seen a dermatologist?

Hopefully they'll have some good advice. GPs can be very good but it's not always possible to be up-to-date on everything so the specialist should be a better bet. Will keep my fingers crossed for you - let us know if there's any really good advice, I could do with some on bad days (my GP thinks all you need for eczema is to moisturise).

I've never had any history of eczema, however in Nov I suddenly had problems with red itchy skin all around my eyes and they sometimes became very swollen. I also have an area on my neck, very red about an inch square, as well as smaller patches on my hands and arms. (I look like a punch bag with a love bite - very embarrassing indeed, all those pity full looks outside school )

Recently I saw a specialist who thinks it's eczema and gave me a 2 wk course of steroid tablets, however he is also sending me for patch testing to ensure it's not an allergy.

I've just finished the steroid tablets and already seeing signs of going back to square one.

Sorry yenti I'm prattling on and not being any help at all but I will be watching your post with interest and if anything improves things for me I'll let you know.

Meanwhile hope your DD improves, my DS 6 also has eczema, so I understand how they can suffer. Good luck.
