What do you do about stain removal when your toddler has sensitive skin?

DD has eczema and has been getting rashes lately, so I'm switching to Filetti/Surcare for the laundry, but what do I do about stain removal? Vanish Oxi Action Max (the only thing that seems to work for me) doesn't seem like such a good idea any more ... (I also use Napisan but don't find it all that effective on toddler stains)

What happens if you use your usual stain remover, rinse the item thoroughly and then wash?

franch · 04/07/2005 18:25

That's what I usually do. I don't know that stain removers irritate DD's skin, just wondered if there was anything kinder I could use just in case they're a factor.

Ecover do an excellent washing powder www.ecover.com/english/index.htm

Their washing powders don't have optical brighteners & they have a stain remover

Aha, didn't know ecover did a stain remover - many thanks

Napisan works wonders on stains

put up with the stains as I couldn't find anything to get them out Before passing them on to anyone else soak in Ariel and then wash with non biological powder Didn't know about the ecover one, might try that myself

I use 2 sets of clothes - one set for messy stuff and better clothes for everything else (including park). I have to change his clothes regularly to cream so this is no hassle.

massive bib with sleeves - which he calls his "buzz lightyear costume" for clothes.

I wash with a normal stain remover, go through another rinse and spin cycle then wash again in the gentle powder. Seems to be OK.

There is a new stain remover in Tesco - Vanish Sensitive. It doesn't have that "X" on the back like the others do. It says it is dematologically tested so might do the trick! I bought the Gel the other day - it worked for me and smells nicer than the usual stain removers.

The Ecover stain remover is excellent.

I just use an ariel actilift tablet in the wash and then give an extra wash cycle afterwards with no detergent to remove any traces left. Dd seems to cope with it despite having eczema and usually using surecare for other wash loads. I just found her school shirts and stained items did not come clean enough. Shockingly she seems ok with it so I prefer using a tablet now and then rather than any other stain removal chemicals. Seems to work for her ok.

I use my normal stain remover, current machine has a button to select an extra rinse (on any cycle) and that seems to do the trick.
