Had a leaflet about this huge really interesting research study on allergies this morning. DS is 8 weeks so would be eligible. Looks like it's london based though. Anyone else had the leaflet. eatstudy

How interesting ... who is this organisation? Yes, our doctor explained exactly this, in countries where the food is introduced at an early age, there are feweer allergic children...

BlueBumedFly · 14/01/2010 21:45

It is being run by Dr Gideon Lack, he is extremely well thought of in the world of allergies and is running other paediatric studies, usually out of the Portland in London.

BlueBumedFly · 14/01/2010 21:46

Sorry, meant St Thomas', its Dr Du Toit that is at the Portland. Both excellent from what I hear.

I got the leaflet - on the LEAP study with ds1 - it's the same specialists. Decided not to take part in the EAT study with ds2, but looks v interesting and v interested to see the results. Prob is London-based, but they should cover travel costs etc.

madrehayunasola · 14/01/2010 22:11

Yes, he is the doctor we saw, brilliant, sounded familiar when I read it, he mentioned this when we saw him a few months ago... Dr.Lack is also at the Portland. Do you know anyone to take part?

Bit of a risk to take with your child though!

Ds was reacting through my breast milk to milk and eggs from about 3 months old, so how does early exposure through breast milk tie in with their theory? There are many posters on here whos DC reacted in the same way as mine.

naturopath · 16/01/2010 23:13

trixy - interesting - how did your ds react to eggs? Was it only when you ate eggs as main meal (eg scrambled eggs) or was it anything with egg as an ingredient (eg cake)? What reaction did he have?

My ds1 is allergic to eggs yet didn't react to my eating them and breastfeeding (although did react to milk and soya). I think my ds2 does react, but I've only eaten eggs a couple of times since he was born (out of fear of a reaction!), so I'm not sure..

(apologies for thread hijack)

trixymalixy · 16/01/2010 23:24

Same as his reaction when I had had milk, he would feed for 10 mins and then pull off screaming and not go back on.

I cut out dairy and had 3 days of non-screaming feeds and then he started screaming again because i had had eggs for lunch. It was definitely worse when i had eggs as a main meal.

Unfortunately I think DD (5 months) is allergic as well. The only time I have had scrambled eggs she had a very fussy, shrieky feed and her face was a bit red where my milk had dribbled out of her mouth. She is being skin prick tested in 3 weeks time so i'll find out for definite then.

interesting - you're not going to George du Toit are you?

trixymalixy · 17/01/2010 22:49

No, we live in Scotland so go to Dr Hague's clinic at Yorkhill.
