If your first child had an allergy, what did you do with your second one?

DS has now out grown his dairy allergy but it still allergic to egg - he's 3.

DD is almost 5 months, exclusively bf. Obviously I'm going to bf as long as possible, but wondered what to do about weaning?

Should I completely avoid those things? For how long? Should I put her onto hypoallergenic formula when I give up bf or try normal formula?

TIA.

sorry, no answer, but I'm in exactly the same situation. I've actually been avoiding dairy and soya myself since ds2 was born, and the occasional time I've eaten them he's been screaming a few hours later. Been given Nutramigen for him. Was going to have him allergy-tested in a few weeks.

Chances are though that if you have been eating dairy and she's fine then she can probably tolerate it.

Any other signs she might be allergic? Eczema etc.?

I did low allergy weaning (no soya or wheat til 8 mo, no egg, celery or fish til 9 mo, no dairy, sesame, citrus or strawberries til 1 year, no nuts, shellfish or kiwi at all (ds1 was/is allergic to milk and nuts, I am allergic to kiwi and shellfish). I also kept a detailed diary and never introduced more than 1 thing at a time.

Basically I was a mass of nerves the whole time and the 'technique' I used reflected my own experience of allergies in the sense that I delayed introducing the foods I was most worried about longest.

Anyway, whether it 'worked' or not ds2 appears to have no food allergies - just a very little bit of eczema now and then.

THanks wb that sounds doable. DS had eczema and occasionally hives. I'm not dairy free and apart from a couple of small patches on her cheeks and runny nose she seems fine - both of which could be attributed to other things.

Fingers crossed eh?!
