Yes - you can suddenly develop allergies and any time in life.

The chest tightening would worry me and I would be inclined to call NHS direct to ask their advice. As you are feeling better I am sure it is OK but anything with the chest tightening would worry me tbh!

P.S. Don't mean to panic you and hope I haven't! I'm sure it is probably just a mild allergy you have developed but best get it checked out to be on the safe side!

I will try and sleep for now and never eat peanuts again, the gp's receptionists hate me at the minute, my chest feels better at the mo

Hope you are Ok this morning.

I have a child who is anaphylactic to peanuts and I believe you should be asking for an urgent referal for allergy testing. If your gp is reluctant then ask for a blood test for peanut allergy. Chest tightness and tingling can be signs of an anaphylactic reaction and while your reaction did not develop this time you need professional tests and advice. Allergies can develop at any age, especially in people who have one allergy already.

If this happens again going to sleep is unwise. It's possible to have a secondary reaction a few hours later and while these are usually milder it's better to be awake/have someone monitor you. It's better to sit up rather than lie down if breathing is a problem, although if there is tingling but no breathing issue you may be better lying down. You should take antihistamine immediately and summon an ambulance if you have breathing problems.

Until you get professional advice - and perhaps an epipen - you should carry piriton with you. Piriton acts faster than other antihistamines. If you aren't given an epipen you may also need to carry steroids.
