has anyone any idea how i can treat DD1 excema around eyes and top of lips. she is 4 and has had excema since 4 months, and from 2years was finally under control but in last few months has had it around her eyes and its causing hell.

she is distressed with itching and we have never had it in this area before. its now making her skin look damaged and makes her look like a wrinkly old woman. i am really upset as we had been to to hell and back treating excema and thought she had grown out of it.

no experience with treating it on her face especially on eyelids and under eyes.

what do i do whilst waiting for GP appointment (i am going to demand a referal).

Aveeno is not helping nor epaderm. Can i use 0.5% steroid?

any experiences please?

It's definitely fine on her lips - I've used much stronger steroid creams and been fine. I think as long as it doesn't touch her eyeballs then she should be fine.

Definitely make another appointment, though because it can be sorted out with different creams.

the only thing is that the skin round the eyes is really thin, so more gets through into the bloodtsream than when used elsewhere.

I get eczema round my eyes in pregnancy and the GP never lets me have anything stronger than E45

I'd do it for your dd as a short term measure only.

my dd had an awful time with excema around her eyes and yes, I did have to resort to a mild steroid as a last resort when they got so bad but didn't like doing it. Her eyes used to be really bad in the morning and we finally discovered that she is seriously allergic to dust mites and, as she slept face down on her pillow at night this is where a lot of the trouble was coming from. Invested in an anti allergy hoover, anti allergy pillow and pillow cover, mattress cover and duvet, cut the soft toys down to 1, and it has been much much better and, although she still suffers with it, tends to be kept at bay with aveeno. She does find though that this is the worst time of year for her eyes and indeed lips as they seem to be greatly affected by the changes in temperature from hot inside to freezing cold outside and the "dryness" of the central heating.

Would be fine to bring under control again.
I read somewhere that head of The Eczema Society has used 1% HC on his eyelids for most of his life.
Not suggesting you do likewise, but for a short period to get back to baseline would be v acceptable

I have done it, and used it on DD1, but I would be exceedingly cautious. My dad used steroid cream round his eyebrow for a short period, and now has a problem with his vision that the consultant said is usually caused by this....
