BF Baby vomits all the time - Dairy Intollerance? Advice wanted from those in the know.

My DH and I have Asthma and eczema and (dust mite etc) allergies but no food allergies we know of. My nephew has a cow's milk intolerance but is happy with goat milk (may be mixed with lactose intolerance).

My DS is nearly 5 months old, exclusively BF, has eczema and vomits all the time. Vomits when he burps - a lot and then all the time as well - even up to 1 or 2 hours after his feeds .. not with wind and sometimes not a lot - I'd say 'a handful' (as I can usually catch it).
I gave up milk on cereal and in coffee for a few days and he puked a lot less (or so it seemed). When I started on the milk again it seemed he started puking again and after 2 days he had mucous in his nappy.

I've been to the Doctor who was hugely sceptical about a dairy intolerance but grudgingly sent the poo sample off for analysis. It came back borderline positive (0.5% reducing substances) so we are being referred to a paed for a RAST (?) blood test and a fresh stool sample.

Do these symptoms sound like anyone elses? What did you find? What did you do? I am BF so don't want to give up dairy and the calcium unnecesarily but will if I need to. Help ...

He's puked and puked and puked today ... about 15 times - creamy slimy stuff - not loads and he doesn't seem bothered but it is getting me down -everything stinks of sick.

Hi Bonzo, I've just been speaking to a friend of mine who runs a wildlife reserve and mentioned the whole non vomming at the new house, she has put forward the theory that it could be something like a rat repelling plug in that one of my neighbours may be using / could be a reaction to electrical equipment! Apparantly both of these things have a phisical effect on some of the animals she rescues! I'm hoping she's wrong about the electrical equipment...can't live witout laptop!

BTW! I love the mini! I have a galaxy covered in multicoloured daisies

Hi Pushka - thanks for sharing. I'm glad your little one has it under control now. It is good to at least know what is causing all this isn't it.

Kitkat - my mini has sadly bitten the dust - very sad about that one - it is 24 years old but last mot was £700 to pass so we called it a day. Just getting round to trying to sell it to an "enthusiast". Interesting about the rat repeller ...not heard of that but anything is possible.

Well I avoided all dairy for a week (but uesd say milk for me) and he puked MORE. So I took out the soy milk and he still puked. So 2 weeks dairy free and he puked more

Went back on dairy and he puked less

but then has been puking less and less ever since. So 1) thank goodness it wasn't a dairy allergy and 2) must have been something he grew out of - hurray!

Thanks for all your tips though.

kitkatqueen did you ever work out what was causing your LO's sickness?

DierdreB - I'd run out of options on why DD was not gaining weight and constantly being wet and windy at both ends. GP was no use whatsoever and kept suggesting not being winded properly. Despite many hospital stays and appts and not getting anywhere fast, my SIL had someone suggest homeopathy.

Despite feeling we were going to see a witch doctor, went to the appt. Your test as described in post, is the very test carried out on both husband and self. Then on me with baby in my lap. Milk and wheat had my arm go down so easily. Incidentally, husband was surprised to find he had to strain to keep his arm up, on a packet of cheese being held against his back, and in the end, just had to let it go down.

Homeopath suggested we change to soya milk and avoid wheat and cows milk. This done, within a month, the previous sickness and diarrhea had gone and DD was gaining weight.

I'm not medically qualified in any way so cannot give advice or suggest this is a proof positive test as most people have a slight intolerance to something.
