What can I expect?

DS2 is nearly 7 months. Last month I tried him with some formula (currently BF) and also some baby porridge (contained milk). Each time he reacted by getting a rash and becoming extremely itchy. So much so that he drew blood and couldn't sleep. He also has exzema which we seem to have under control now with his various creams.

Anyway GP has referred us to the paeds. What can I expect? Will they run any tests on our first visit?

Thanks

Yours sound similar to the experience we had with our dd. It pretty much sounds like your lo is allergic to cow's milk so your paed will most likely be refer to an allergy clinic if there is one in your area and they will do the tests. However be prepared for a wait - it was 6 months after referral that there was an appointment available for us.
However they will acknowledge that it is an allergic reaction and most likely prescribe a hypoallergenic formula e.g. Neocate, Nutramigen.
In our initial appointment we also talked about dds skincare routine (she has eczema) and discussed her diet, so they advised what to do in the meantime.
Hope that helps!

Oh so they can't do the tests at the paed dept? I got this appointment within 3 weeks of going to Gp so was feeling quite positive!

Same experience so useful to know what's what.. Sorry to hijack the thread.. But what do the allergy clinics usually test for? Is there a standard set? Cause one allergy may mean several more down the track.. If so might try and get blood tests done privately if not too expensive...
