My DD is 8 months old, she has always been a sicky baby (just like DS previously).

My HV put her on carobel at 8 weeks from then she had horrendous (to me ) exzema. The carobel made her no better and we just managed her sickiness and everything else.

Until recently when she had a stomach virus and stopped taking feeds - her skin cleared up really well and once using the Dexeryl that we got in the trial, completely.

Once we started milk feeds again it came back with avengance.

I took her to an allergist specialist ( so she said) and when I got home and looked on the internet bio resonance wasn't very highly thought of.

Anyway, I have put her on goats formula and she is improving loads skin wise. Any similar experiences?

WE tried goats milk then soya as my ds reacted to goats too....he was very very sick, I have photographic evidence of my whole top half being covered in vomit.

I don't know what bio-resonance is but it sounds like your dd has a cows milk allergy. I was covered in eczema as a child til I went dairy-free at age 9. I too was fine with goat's milk, though many children are allergic to both.

goats formul isn't recommended under a year and soy may cause allergies too. Certainly sounds like an intolerance to cows milk but not goats milk, You could try Pepti Junior. Your gp might agree to prescribe it for you to save the cost of eczema treatment.

you really need to take her to the GP, get her properly tested for food allergies, and get a prescription formula that is suitable for her.
goats milk and soya formulas are NOT recommended for babies

scottishmummy · 14/12/2009 22:03

go to gp ask for referral to consultant dermatologist
stay away from nutritionist quacks
dont attempt self medicating goats milk

you need professional advice and consultation

chegirlwithbellson · 14/12/2009 22:17

I agree with SM. Ask to be referred to dermatologist.

DS has severe atopic eczema (severe enough to get Disability allowance). We didnt get anywhere near on top of it until he saw a specialist.

you could waste years (I mean years) going back and forth to GP.

I wouldnt discount dietary factors, I have seen cases where babies are dramatically affected by foodstuffs. But there are lots of factors that can exacerbate eczema.

DS is allergic to housedust mites and pollens. Food doesnt really come into it (thank goodness).

Also children can be violently allergic to goats milk, soya milk etc.

Hope you get it sorted.

I agree re avoiding the goat and soya milk. From what I remember they are not nutritionally complete, and I think soya has been linked with hormonal problems due to its similarity to oestrogen. There are hydrolysed formulas like Nutramigen if you suspect a cows milk allergy. Definitely worth getting seen by someone a bit more knowledgable.

UnseenAcademicalMum · 14/12/2009 23:08

As tatt sayes, I would try and get C&G Pepti or Pepti Junior. Both of these are hydrolysed formulas but taste somewhat better than Nutramigen.

Both our ds's had bad eczema until we discovered and eliminated all ds1's allergens from his diet (eggs, nuts, beans, lentils, peas, kiwi fruit) and the same with ds2 (dairy). The change was unbelievable and especially in ds2 who was eczema covered from birth despite exclusive breast-feeding. At 19 months he is now completely eczema free.
