See my thread from earlier here

Anyone got any experience of this? Will he grow out of it?

Cece, I would agree with the others that you should really be referred to an allergy clinic. While there is a good chance of your DS growing out of this, it should be assessed properly, and they would generally want to rechallenge in hospital rather than you doing it at home. You will probably need to see a dietician as well, to ensure adequate calcium intake for your DS - my DD presented at 6 months as well, and we were told that referrals at that stage count as urgent due to the weaning stage.

Thanks for all of the advice.

Luckily I have a GP appointment booked for next week for his skin so will talk to the GP then. The one I saw today was the emergency one so wasn't my normal one.

I feel a bit embarassed about asking for a hosptial referral. Will it really get worse? Sorry don't know anything about allergies really apart from the epipen training at work.

Hi, you made it!

Really, don't worry, and don't be embarrassed. I agree with what BalloonSlayer said on the other thread, it's definitely an allergy and it does sound like quite a strong reaction. That's not to say he won't grow out of it, the most important thing right now is complete avoidance of all milk products. Sounds daunting, but most products on sale in the UK have allergy labelling, which means that common allergens like milk, nuts etc have to be highlighted close to the ingredients list.

There's a lot of advice on the Allergy UK website which should help, if only so you know which questions to ask! And don't worry about whether he'll grow out of it, most kids do, but it may take years rather than months.

Good luck, let us know how you get on!
