17 week old DD has had a 'cold' for 6 weeks now...advice?

Reposting here from child health....

DD3 had a cold at 11 weeks old. At 13 weeks I took her to the GP because she still had her cold. Now, 4 weeks later, she still has aa snotty nose, and cough, and finding it hard to breathe.

I took her to GP who now says that she has generalised wheeze and crackle, and she thinks that she could have asthma.

Would asthma cause such a snotty nose? It seems to dry up, but then 'liquifies' when she is feeding & come back with a vengeance. DD3 is exclusively BF.

Sounds pretty normal to me, babies are snuffly most of the first year, ime.
The problem is that the more you push doctor types to find a cause or a reason to treat it, the more likely they are to find it and treat it... and the treatment may not cure at all, whilst still producing undesirable side effects. Not that I think they can do much outside of hospital for a very little one, anyway.
For slightly older tots they can give them steroids which can retard growth (IIRC), so not something to start using regularly if you can help it. Similar drawbacks for other medical treatments.

Have you tried Karvol or steamy rooms?

Thanks for your reply. This isn't usual 'snuffles', imo. DDs1&2 never had long periods of copious snot & wheezing. We have used snuffle babes, with some effect..

Has she been tested for CF?

Yes, they test for CF as part of the guthrie here at 7 days.
