How to clean carpets (baby with eczema)

My 8-month old DD is on the verge of crawling and can no longer be contained on her playmats. Therefore I'd like to clean our carpets (we moved in last year and don't how clean the carpets are, plus the previous owners had pets). I've thought about hiring one of those electric carpet cleaners, but am concerned that the chemicals you'd use it with would not be good for her eczema. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

I've got a Dyson allergy hoover, and plan on spraying the carpet with Total Hygiene DM1 spray after it has been cleaned.

Thanks

Just looked at the hot water extraction.

They still use a detergent. Dose anytone know if it's possible to have this done with no detergent as any detergent at all even trace is a no-go in our house?

when my son was small the allergy docs said i shouldnt vacumn the house with my son in it. because of his dustmite allergy, however i didnt have a place to put him that was dustmite free!

however i did notice that if he was in the room with me while i was using the vacumn he started frantically scratching.
he also , when he sat on the sofa or carpet, scratched the back of his legs.

when he was crawling, in the summer, if legs were bare his eczema developed on the front of his legs, and when he learnt to walk, it cleared up and remained on the back.

when he was born we lived in a carpeted house that the previous owners had a dog and a cat. but we didnt know about allergies then, so didnt twig that this was a cause.

after getting testing, discovered he was allergic to most of the enviromental allergies. started changing the home, and his environment and he began to sleep for longer and deeper periods of time. his skin improved, and once we got the food allergens out of his diet his skin routine changed , to a more simpler routine. so in that respect we were very lucky.

we only had the worst ezcema from age birth - 5, and his skin is still very thin and dry, but as a teen , its his job to apply, not mine. he only needs the mositurizers , and steroid creams stopped at 5.

our home is full of dust, as i am working and studying and so dont have the time i once did to keep things under control, in fact removal and control of dustmite could be a full time job in its own right!

a air filter for removing dustmite and pollen really has made a difference to sleep quality btw!

enviromental allergies are very , very expensive imo.

eragon, thanks for posting. can you clear a couple of things up for me? my daughter has had a Rast which shows maximum sensitivity to cat and HDM. I am avoiding labelling this as an allegy, as i have been told it is not, it is a sensitivity. plus, the effects are much more slow brewing and slow to clear than an allegy might be. I have competely changed her bedroom environment, am working on the living room, and am wondering what to do about the cats at the childminder.

my questions are....

The RAST tested for cat, dog, HDM and pollen.... what other Environmental allergens are there?

how did you get food allergy testing?

is your child allergic or sensitive?

can you advise me on air filters please?

I really appreciate any response you can find the time to give me, as i don't know anyone who has been through this to seek advice from, and the medical professionals are all very focussed on management of condition by use of steroids.

thanksThanks
