General eczema/allergies questions..

Hi dd2 10mo has had severe excema from around 6 weeks old. At some points it had been so bad that it looked like had been burnt on her face and drew gasps of horror from people looking into the pram. She has had RAST tests which showed up allergies to egg and milk but only 3 and 2. Other foods definitely cause it to flare up even ones which tested 0 or negative. Her reactions are extreme worsening of excema, has had all over hives once (plum?) and swollen eye, face and lips (melon?pollen?) I just had a few questions..

  1. Does anyone have a child who still reacts to foods negative in RAST test? Did these come up on skin prick? (she has those in sept)

  2. If she has so far not had an anaphylactic reaction is it unlikely that she will start? She has never had nuts or egg..

  3. We have all the stuff for wet wrapping but her back and tummy are clear and soft so only wanted to do her arms and legs. We have the vests and tights so do I only only wet the arm and leg parts??

  4. She is crawling (after a fashion..) and it sems to have got worse. Has anyone elses DC improved once their child started to walk?

TIA Sorry to put so many different things in one thread!

We are trying to keep DS's eczema under control, but 1 thing we have found that helps him is piriton. We give him 1ml in the morning and 1ml in the evening and it really helps to relieve his itching.

mmpaw- DS was prescribed (non-drowsy) antihistamine to suppress itching (Cetirizine hydrochloride). Think you can buy it without prescription (Benadryl)

girlsyearapart · 20/07/2009 08:52

Yes we give her piriton (allerief) every night and sometimes more if itching is bad. The daytime isn't too bad as we can keep an eye on her and distract her if she starts.

W W update- slept all night! first time in ages. Haven't seen her skin yet though as DH is up with the dds..

my sons legs really improved on the front when he started walking!

dustmite allergy is one of his highest allergens.

so we have melted some credit cards over the years.
no hanging washing on line, ( tree pollen, hay fever) for some years.

all clothes tumbled dried, never hung on rads.

damp dusting, leather furniture, frozen teddies over night, then washed the next day.
boil washing bedding.

books , toys in plastic boxes, wooden flooring in bedroom , and most of house.

and good quality allergy bedding.

all total nightmare, but did work for some years.

now at 13 on daily antihistmine as dustmite/tree pollen/dog etc very very high , causing mild allergic reactions in morning.

cant offer much more advice than you have already been given, but can say, been there got the t-shirt. ( p.s did get some decent sleep by time he was 2 -2 1/2)

aristocat · 20/07/2009 10:30

glad to see she slept through, hope its the start you all need

girlsyearapart · 20/07/2009 19:10
