DD hasn't an allergy as such but is what I think some intolerance to wheat. She suffers from constant nausea, tummy aches and behaviour things (she is 11 btw). tested negative for coeliac but has lots of aspergers characteristics.

So as a bit of an experiment we went wheat/gluten free about 6 months ago. She's not 'cured' but less tummy aches and behaviour noticably better.

She's off on a school trip in 2 weeks. 5 days away. will have a fabulous time but I'm starting to fret about what she is going to eat while she is away. She doesn't eat much of anything.

On the medical questionairre form I have put that she is on a wheat free diet. Does this mean they will provide her with GF food? Will they watch her to make sure she doesn't just eat what she wants? Do I send a case of GF crackers and muffins with her?

Or, should she just eat what she wants (including 'real' bread etc) and let them deal with the consequences?

have been in this exact scenario but as staff member. i would definitely pop in and speak to the school. ask if one member of staff can be on her table and keeping an eye on what she has. explain it exactly - maybe do a list of bullet points on an index card. also do this for the kitchen staff at the centre. the only issue they will have is concern to get it right and easy ideas for what she CAN have. i would also send some food she will definitely eat, but give it to the staff person as it won't be allowed in bedrooms.
are the school aware of behavioural aspect? they may need some guidance.
hth.
btw- often children discover that they love things they've never eaten before because they see all the others eating it - just a thought - and she may be so busy etc that the tummy aches are less of an issue.

personally I would want a meeeting with whoever from school is in charge of the trip, and would telephone/write to the centre to see whether they wanted me to provide own bread etc for DD

is your DD bothered about it/concerned about what she will have to eat, or about feeling unwell away from home?
