one of the older dd's touched dd4 skin after breakfast, and she came up with a handprints of urticia on her belly. i gave her piriton and the wheals have subsided.

however, her skin has now gone scaley and spotty.

does this happen after reactions to other people or their children?

it looks a bit like eczema spots to me, but not infected ones. am going to give her a cool bath soon to sooth her skin a bit

Does it itch?

Ds's skin goes really dry (scaly like) and spotty every winter as soon as the central heating comes on. I am pretty sure it is a sort of mild eczema as it does itch quite a bit and he needs to have diprobase (or similar ) rubbed on at least 2-3 times a day for it to improve.

I think he just has pretty dry skin and any additional stress on the skin like a dry atmosphere etc trip it into a mild eczema. If I leave it without moisturising it just gets worse and more itchy.

Maybe if her skin has been 'stressed' by the reaction it may trigger a sort of eczema if her skin is sensitive.

she is only 6.5months. and she has been rubbing it, especially the main bit on her tummy.

i'm not 100% sure, but it might be heat spots as well.

or a combination of everything.

The first time I noticed this on ds was when he was baby about 5-6 months old I think, he was rubbing and scratching at it so much he haad scratch marks

I took hin to the doctor about it actually .I was first time mum and was living in a foreign country at the time so no family/friends to get advice from. I saw the nurse and she said it was eczema and prescribed moisturisers etc and 1% cortisoid cream (which I only used a tny bit of a couple of times). TBH it never got really bad or anything but he had had it recurrently since then. Luckily using a good moisturiser regularly seems to hold it in check.

It may not be that but if it bothering her and doesn't clear up in a day or so, you could get a nurse or doctor to have a look. Or even try a moisturiser. I did have to experiment with ds as e45 made it worse and some others didn't help at all. Diprobase is what worked in the end.

could be excma coming misdee. excma is connected to allergies anyway, and i get very dry skin verging on excma when I have had several reactions in a row.

do you have any diprobase that you could use on her??

misdee · 24/05/2009 19:27

yes she has eczema anyway, so have plenty of diprobase.

she is now smothered in cream and asleep.

if no better in the morning, shoud i get out of hours gp to look at the rash/spots? dh is immune suppressed and want to make sure its nothing nasty, and not just a reaction to her allergic reaction iyswim.

oh yes, I would, given your circumstances.

might be nothing, but then, in allergic people virus;s can manifest oddly - they do in me!

Ds rashes when touched by someone who has something he is allergic too. if it was just after breakfast is it poss that this could have happened? Especially if rash came only where touched?

misdee · 24/05/2009 22:34

yes, i think one of the older dd's had milk residue on their hands. dd4 is allergic to milk.

it was how we used to test food before we gave new stuff. if he reacted to a tiny bit contacting arm it was a no go. Not scientific but med prof slow to help and we needed a way to avoid the shock response.

See if calmed tomo, the bath will have helped - might take a few days to calm completely though.

DS now has psrosis (how DO you spell that?) and gets a really bad scaley rash -especially when stressed. We know all about rashes here
