OOoo I am going to be here in a few months. Am watching thread with interest.

So far all I can think of is fine porridge with alternative [like rice milk]

And fruit puree.

treedelivery · 17/05/2009 18:41

Could you use bm or formula or do you want it totally milk free inany form, not just dairy?

misdee · 17/05/2009 18:42

have been doing fruit purrees, thickened with rice for now. so like a smooth porriage consistantancey.

i am wary of porriage due to the allergic reaction she had, although, due to dropping milk on her skin and her flaring up, i'm 99.9% certain it is just the milk, and not the oats.

mashed banana

banana mixed with avocado

porridge made with water and fruit puree added for flavour

misdee · 17/05/2009 18:43

i am cr*p at expressing.

no formula. due to the allergies.

iris66 · 17/05/2009 18:43

don't feel useless it's hard work when they can't have the key things we're used to

porridge made with water
marmite on toast
banana & pear chunks
yoghurt (my 2 are ok with yoghurt though can't do milk - sheep/goat yoghurt is easily available too)
beans on toast
egg (though it's a common allergen)
bacon/sausage

hope that helps

iris66 · 17/05/2009 18:44

ricemilk instead of formula is ok in food but it separates if you boil it on it's own

treedelivery · 17/05/2009 18:45

Sorry - meant formula as in the sypoallergenic malarky?

Can dd have soya/rice/oat milk?

I have the Lucy Burney book, all her recipes are dairy free till the one year mark.

nickschick · 17/05/2009 18:46

My ds is/was allergic to dairy (he had cow and gate til he was 7 honest)

He used to love toast and marmite and dry cheerios.

My ds was able to tolerate cow and gate due to the allergen he was allergic to being removed during the processing, however other baby milk flared him up.

Habbibu · 17/05/2009 18:46

Can you make pancakes with water/milk substitute?

Crumpets?

misdee · 17/05/2009 18:47

been told to avoid soya for now.

will try hwer wit the rice milk i have (though i think its foul).

still waiting on hospital appointment so no hypoallergenic formula atm.

have been giving her toast. she loves toast

nickschick · 17/05/2009 18:47

he just accepted breakfast was dry cereal and fruit - we would often set off for school with him chomping on a pineapple ring.

If you are worried about oats I can give you some alternatives from this book.

Also, don't worry about giving other less breakfasty food. So what? Bacon and sausage aren't remotely breadkfasty really, we wouldn't have pork and steak for breakfast yet have these.

It's just tradition and culture, so give her what she likes whatever time of day it is.

The rice milk isn't so bad in porridge I found. Soak it over night so it's a quick heat up job in the morning.

iris66 · 17/05/2009 18:56

be careful of giving too much of one thing though - DS1 developed an intolerance to wheat and spelt that way.

Rice bread
rice / maize pasta

misdee · 17/05/2009 18:58

i would luuurve steak for breakfast lol.

i need quick to prepare stuff for the mornings as hasve to get kids to school.

will try the rice milk and porriage soaked overnight for tomorrow. with the piriton handy and the phone handy

if you can do eggs that opens up lots of options.. scrambled, omlette, eggy bread.

otherwise toast? fruit? other bread tyoe products? like scotch pancakes, crumpets, pikelets, toasted tea cakes.. not sure if those contain milk.

misdee · 17/05/2009 19:02

eggs are a high allergy risk food [wobbles]

though dd1 makes a scrambled eggs on toast most morning for herself.

oh i want dd4 appointment to come through quickly.

OP posts:
pointydog · 17/05/2009 19:09

toast fingers with fruit spread (the sugar free ones) or pure spread

a weetabix mashed up with a banana. The dds used to like that

treedelivery · 17/05/2009 19:09

Which foods are you keen to avoid? I'll check out this book I have.

I guess at her age she isn't eating much?

iris66 · 17/05/2009 19:23

don't get too worried misdee - it's one meal a day and even if you only give her 3 things in rotation her head's not going to fall off is it? (not being too flippant I hope - I really do know how hard it is)

iris66 · 17/05/2009 19:30

Are you still BF by the way? I know the jury's still out on what gets through but DS1 used to flare up if I had dairy so it may be worth avoiding, the things you don't want her to have, yourself too.

Really feel for you by the way Hope you get an appointment soon. I pushed my GP and we were referred to Dr DuToit at St Thomas' Hosp London (big paediatric allergy unit) and had loads of (very revealing) allergy tests. We go back regularly and there's loads of support too (diet etc) Good luck.

What tests did your ds have? I have seen paed cons once and he said all tests were of no use. I don't know if he means now, cos dd2 is young, or forever which is .

Hope Misdee doesn't mind hijack, it's all good knowledge. Am currently dairy free myself for bf. It's the pits.

kalo12 · 17/05/2009 19:50

hipp organic banana rice pudding doesn't contain milk.

i gave alot of fruit puree at this age.

oatly is a good milk substitute.

orgran buckwheat pancake mix is great when they are in to finger food.
