DD (15mths) is severely intolerant to dairy & soya and is under the care of a pead consultant.

She has been on neocate since she was 10mths but her poos still haven't been "normal"

A couple of wks ago she had sickness bug so only gave her dry food for 24hrs ie rich tea biscuits, rice cakes etc, bread sticks...and her poos were totally normal

Now she is back to full health she refuses her baby porridge in the morning, arching back, screaming etc....and her poos are still normal. But she loved it before being ill.

So is she telling me she is intolerant to porridge iyswim (maybe was getting tummy ache?) and how common is intolerance to oats??

I think it's possible - but have no experience, sorry. Useless anedcata but when I was a baby I loved eating anything with cheese in despite the fact I was intolerant and still am now - it took my mum a few times to work it out. But having said that, I don't have an immediate reaction, it's always a few hours later.

Give her an oat biscuit - if she refuses that then it's the oats - if not it's just she doesn't want runny food at the moment.

it is possible - my brother used to refuse things we later found he was allergic to

MY Ds2 would always throw up after milk from about 6 months onwards. we were told it was definately reflux and intolerance didn't occur to us. But we found out later he had huge dairy intolerance.

If we had had the good sense to think 'perhaps his body doesn't really like milk' we would have saved him a lot of distress of many varieties over about 7 years.

My DS1 loved cheese and milk, but sadly he is intolerant so no, I don't think it is true.

i don't know if there's any truth in it but if she doesn't want baby porridge and actually seems better for not having it then i'd drop it - you don't really need to know why do you?

Ok have given her an oat cake which has has eaten...so there goes my theory

So will see how her poo is in the next couple of hours...

Could the poo thing be the neocate? When we tried ds2 with this is poo was explosive and dark, khaki green.

I dont think so.

We hated milk when we were children, but were forced to drink it every day because my mother thought it was good for us. We are all lactose intolerant.

I hated eggs (which we were also made to eat every day for breakfast). My brother is allergic to them, but I am not.

We all consumed as much food containing artificial colourings as we were allowed to, we were intolerant to those as well.

simpson · 10/05/2009 18:08

Mmmm It could be the neocate I guess...

Because she is not having her porridge she is having much less neocate iyswim.

She was having 12-15ozs per day but now maybe 8-10...

but she drains her bottle first thing in the morning still and her poo (about an hour or so later) has been normal.

On the oat cake front her poos today (since oat cake) have been rock hard and she has been straining a bit....

You need a lot of liquid if you are going to eat oat cakes!

mosschops30 · 10/05/2009 19:57

Maybe my ds is intolerant to everything other than sausage rolls, pizza and smiley faces

No dont think its true
