Just had latest edition of Crossed Grain mag from Coeliac UK - advertised is new bread called 'Genius' available only in Tesco.

Its wheat and gluten free and it really does taste like bread. Just bought some, DS knocked back 1.5 slices (I ate the other half lol).

Its £1.99 on offer at the moment until 7 June then will be £2.49 a loaf. They do white and brown uncut.

I am so excited!!!

I think I need to get out more lol

This is good news for when my prescription runs out. Maybe we should start gluten free thread for food we could buy.

My recommnedation is Whole Earth organic cornflakes, nothing added, so gluten free. In Asda and Sainsbury and Morrison's rangin from 86p to £1:26. Much cheaper than the cereals at the gluten free section

This is brilliant DH has just been diagnosed gluten intolerant (does bad things to his entire digestion) and is really missing bread I'm off out tomorrow to get some, thank you so much for posting this thread.

thank you!

This has just started to be stocked at our local Tesco Metro and my son loves his 'special bread'. Asks for it specially and will even eat it with nothing on.

It is actually available on prescription now!!!! But it will have to be a handwritten script from your gp until they can sort out the issues with packaging. I believe all the info, including the PIP code, which you need to take to your gp, is available on their website

MrsGokWan · 07/12/2009 09:35

Ooooh! oooh! oooh! will have to go look.

bramblebooks · 07/12/2009 09:49

lookie lookie!

MrsGokWan · 07/12/2009 10:33

Can anyone recommend anything that you can get on prescription. When my son was first diagnosed we had some stuff but it was pretty grim. Pasta especially is one thing that we need to find that is reasonble but any other tips will be greatfully recieved.

bramblebooks · 07/12/2009 13:25

not on prescription, but I've just discovered Mrs Crimble's pastry mix and have made my DH cornish pasties (preen!) You can also use it for sweet pastry for apple pies, etc

Procelli (I think!) do some nice individual bread rolls and mini french stick things.

The best pasta I've found is corn pasta, which I haven't managed to get on script yet, but I'm not keen on the prescription stuff.

Have you looked on coeliac uk?

RnB · 07/12/2009 13:28

Can you freeze it?!

MrsGokWan · 07/12/2009 13:44

Bramlebrooks thanks for that. No I haven't looked on Coeliacs UK. Will have a look tonight.

RnB I freeze mine and it seems to be fine.

I saw the advert for this but not tried it yet, as was presuming it wasn't going to be brilliant.
Would like some help actually, I'm 31 weeks pregnant, had coeliac since I was 9 [now 22] and although I don't have a problem with my diet, was hoping maybe one or 2 of you have some good healthy cheap recipes for me to try while I'm pregnant? I hope so
xx
