Dd (2 and a half) has been complaining of tummy ache after breakfast and then usually has a foul smelling poo. She has always had fairly loose poos and i did mention it when she was younger but hv dismissed it. Should i try cutting out wheat for a few days and see what happens? She does poo at other times of the day so i don't think needing the toilet is the cause of her tummy ache.

Do you only give her wheat at breakfast time? Does the same thing happen if she has a sandwich for lunch, or some biscuits in the afternoon? Or is her poo always loose and foul-smelling?

be very careful about cuting wheat out of diet unless for very good reason. It has been shown that on average people don't get as balanced a diet when they cut out wheat (which is why coeliacs get wheat free replacements on presciption).

Don;t forget that many wheat based products eg bread and breakfast cereal are fortified with minerals and vitamins.

agree with wb - why only morning?

try a probiotic, good for digestive problems. Possible dehydration is playing a part in this as that's more likely first thing.

sorry - been offline. Thanks for replys. Poo always bad. She doesn't tend to eat much bread - doesn't really like it. And we don't often have biscuits so haven't checked that. She eats everything else really well - plenty of fruit and veg, meat etc. Did wonder if it was maybe dairy but she's been like this from before she started on dairy products.

could be reacting to milk protein or lactose, even in breast milk. Really would try probiotics first for at least 3 days, preferably a week, then if they don't help think about exclusion diets. Keep a detailed food diary, recording the ingredients of anything she eats.

You can get probiotics in health food stores.
