ANY ALTERNATIVE TO NUTRAMIGEN FORMULA?

My 7 month old has just been prescribed Nutramigen formula to eliminate a possible dairy allergy. The smell and taste is so strong he refuses to drink it. Am returning to the GP monday and wondered if anyone recommends I ask for a specific, mre pallatable alternative?

You are right. Nutramigen is disgusting. Ds could barely get it down. Ask GP for a prescription for Pepti-Junior. Much more palatable

Neocate is more palatable. We used the same technique as HMM.

Have you tried Neocate? It also tastes foul but you DC may prefer it!

My 6-month old DD started on Nutramigen a few weeks ago and I've been mixing it with expressed milk, gradually increasing the proportion of formula milk. We're now up to 6oz formula to 1oz expressed which is MUCH better than I had ever anticipated, given that I used to struggle to get her to take a bottle of pure expressed milk.

One thing the hospital dietician suggested to make the Nutramigen taste more palatable is to mix it with Robinson's sugar-free Crush (or Nesquick), with 5ml of Crusha per 100ml of milk. We haven't had to resort to this, but it might be worth a go.

Thanks that's really helpful. I am persevering with 1 oz versus 5 of formula but at the mo even that isn't popular!

DD (allergic to dairy, egg and peanuts) has been on soya formula since the age of 12 months with no ill effects - she's now 19 months. She took to the taste immediately despite not having had any type of formula before other than a sip of Nutramigen which she hated.

The doctor we saw (on the LEAP Study) recommended Nutramigen as the preferred option, followed by soya if DD wouldn't accept the Nutramigen, which we were correctly warned she would probably refuse.

My DD now 15mths old has been on neocate since she was 10mths and I had no problems getting her to take it at all, she loves it!!

Pepti or pepti junior both taste quite OK. Pepti also has lactose in so helps prevent development of secondary lactose intolerance (where the enyme that breaks down lactose switches off because of not getting any lactose in the diet). My ds2 has been taking pepti-junior in combination with BF from being about maybe 9 months old or so. He drank it straight off without having to mix stuff in or anything!
