I am sorry to ask about this, but hayfever probably wasn't on my radar until I read into it a bit more this morning. We moved house this time last year to have a bigger garden for my DS, this seems to be now the cause of his probs. Initially I thought he was allergic to suncreams and was on that path, now since yesterday and no suncream, he has small pinprick blisters on his feet and arms. I read up a bit this morning and wondered if he has a grass pollen allergy as he was running in the garden all afternoon, and now think this is the problem. Does anyone else know or can help with advice on this. He isn't really bothered by the rash, although he was a bit this morning. I put some calamine cream to ease the itching. I had thought about going to see a specialist and have him allergy tested, our doctors just don't seem to care/or be interested in offering support. I have never suffered from hayfever and don't really have the background knowledge to help - although I have read that antihistamines take a while to work in the system??? I have some liguid antihistamine that I have also given him this morning. Must admit I have a cotton wool head today, maybe I have it as well!!!

My ds has hayfever and asthma. It is possible for your GP to test him without having to take him to see a specialist at this stage. It is a blood test and it is done with the use of a local anaesthetic on your childs arm/hand ('magic cream'), so your child shouldn't feel it. It can take a week or so for the results to come back. I had thought my ds had an allergy to our dogs, but rather he is extremely allergic to dust mites and pollen! He now has inhalers prescribed for when he developes his asthmatic cough and nasal spray for when his hayfever (seasonal rhinitis) starts up. So far it has worked well!

You should get him checked over by your GP and ask for allergy blood testing. I can recall playing out in the grass in bare feet and getting a red itchy rash, but I'm no expert and don't know if that is an allergic reaction.

Antihistamines are usually a low dose tablet that is taken regularly, but they also can work quickly - just depends on the doseage.
