best vacuum cleaner to help deal with a dust allergy

We have a mixture of carpets (which dh wants to take up) and wooden floors. I have seen lots of stuff about Dyson, but don't really understand how you clean out the chamber that has all the crud in! Just taking the full bag out of my present vacuum sets me off wheezing.

Thankyou

sorry I meant chamber

Sebo. It has a filter and a bag and works on all sorts of floors (we have wood, tiles, carpet and rugs). The bag comes with a disc that screws in the top so no mess or dust to deal with.

I use a Miele cat & dog. Excellent hoover. It has a bag and the dust is kept inside really well.

I've got this one.

Don't have a great hoover but taking up the carpets really can help. The only place we have carpet is on the stairs.

AM very interested in this as dh is determined to buy an allergy vacuum cleaner soon. mollieO, do you have someone who is sensitive to dander/dust nmite?

Thankyou everyone, I'm going to have a look at those suggestions.

Is Dyson a bit of a love it/hate it thing, because I've only heard bad things about them in rl?

Could be that its either love it or hate it with Dyson. We bought first a "fake" one (looks like a Dyson, claims to work like one) and hated it - it broke after only 1 year and after that we bought a real one and that's been great (still going strong after 3 years). TBH though we only have carpets because when we bought the house the builders included them in the price but I'm going to have everything either tiled or wooden floors when we can afford to change them as I think this is far better for dust anyway.

Ripping up the carpets is the first thing we do when we move house. It's taken us over a year to paint most of the place and there is a huge list of repairs needed, but we couldn't live with the carpets. We ripped them up before we moved in, and lay cardboard moving boxes on the floor until we got all the floors done.

We got all our flooring at 20% in January sales both in this house and our last. I think there may be more discounts more often now! We did five rooms and two corridors with engineered wood for £1200. The bedrooms are the crucial rooms for dust allergy sufferers.
