Anyone had any success with accupuncture for hayfever?

Suffering badly with hayfever right now. My doc suggested trying accupuncture while I was pregnant and couldn't take tablets. Now I am shovelling in the antihistamines but they are not really alleviating it much and I am thinking of trying the accupuncture thing.

Does anyone know how many sessions this sort of treatment would require and if it would keep it at bay for the season.

Not had it for hayfever, but did do for ibs and also sinus problems and both times it was very successful. Sinuses I went about 8 times and have been free of problems since - that was about 7 years ago! For the IBS I went twice only and had immediate improvement but then found out I was pregnant so stopped going.
I really would recommend trying it.

My daughter has had no trouble with her hayfever and asthma for years. She takes Forever Aloe Vera Berry nectar and Bee pollen tablets. As these are natural you could ask your doctor if it is OK to use these. You can view these products at www.aloenews.co.uk.

I use elderflower cordial, for some reason this works really well for hayfever, a glass of squash first thing in the morning. It's drug free so should be fine in pregnancy.

was just about to post the same question! am planning to have acupuncture for hayfever, hoping to start as soon as I can get someone to look after the baby! will let you know how it goes...

meant to say, work colleague recommended acuuncture for hayfever, worked for her. i had it for pelvic girdle pain, also to conceive, worked for me! would also recommend neti pot - sounds wierd but is great for cleaning out sinuses

Try the elderflower cordial first, it's alot cheaper.

Thanks for those tips.

Aloe Vera - haven't tried drinking the stuff but I have to say I am putting 98% Aloe gel on my eyes when they itch and it feels lovely and soothing so I can imagine drinking it could have some benefits.

Elderflower - got the cordial this morning and it tastes yum so I hope I have the same benefits as you FluffyBunny.

As for the accupuncture I am still seriously thinking about it, especially after the shitey night I have just had. Feeling like I haven't slept a wink. Hoochymama do you know how many sessions it took because I am worried about it becoming a huge ongoing (i.e. expensive) thing. And can you tell me about neti pots - the name rings a bell but I'm not sure how they work. I feel the hayfever is going onto my sinuses and making me wheeze so I may give them a shot too (prepared to try anything here!)

Thanks to you all!

think my friend had 6 sessions - that's my experience as well (for other problems)

neti pot - like a little teapot, you fill with water and rinse your sinuses. sounds wierd but feels lovely when you get the hang of it. i got mine off the internet, think it was called rhino something...

hope you find something that works, know how horrible hayfever can be

Just getting myself on here to lurk for DH. His hayfever hasn't started yet but his gets so bad that he gets asthma and has to have a steroid injection - I think he'd love it if acupuncture could work. I'm also adding elderflower cordial to the Tesco shop immediately!
