metanium cream - anyone experienced allergic reaction to it?

Hi - I used metanium cream for the first time on dd2 last week. She later developed spots, first just on her bum but they spread all over her. I took her to the practice nurse who thought it was an allergic reaction to something, not sure what and when I mentioned the cream thought it could possibly be that. It just seems a bit odd that she would have spots on her head and feet as well! Has anyone else's dc had a reaction to metanium cream? It's the only new thing that I'm aware she's had in the relevant time-frame.

Thanks

Don't know about that cream, but allergic reactions can suddenly develop at any time, (so its not necessarily something new that is causing the spots, though that's more likely) and can show up in a myriad of ways. I'd stop using it if I were you, see if the spots go, and if they don't then start cutting out other things it could be.

were you using the metanium cream in response to a particularly bad nappy rash? Perhaps whatever aggravated that might be the cause of the allergy? I've used it on both daughters and not had any issues.

thanks - it does seem a bit unlikely to be the cream, but I've stopped anyway. The spots are slowly fading, in any case. The nappy rash is back, but only when she goes to nursery, despite my repeated requests for frequent changes and use of the provided sudacrem. One gets to one's wits' end

I use it and my daughter doesn't have a problem with it, but her consultant did mention that some babies do. It is because of the titanium in it and some people are sensitive to metals. That wouldn't explain why it has spread though.

Yes. My daughter also has a problem with that cream. Her nappy rash got worse instead.
If you baby reacts to this cream then do not use Sudrocrem neither. It will be likely that your baby is allergic or sensitive to metals. Use bepanthen during the day and use lansinoh nipple cream in your baby's nappy rash at night time, when the skin has more hours to rest. Also Lansinoh will prevent the contact of the skin with urine or stool, as it creates a really long lasting barrier in the skin.
Bepanthen during the day, as it is less dense and will allow the skin to breath more. And ofcourse change the nappies very frequently, do not use wet wipes, use cotton pads and water instead. After a day or two it will be sorted. Good luck.

My baby reacted pretty badly to metanium,it made her (v bad) nappy rash into a huge red mass,Doc said it was unusual, but I switched to Weleda nappy cream and she was fine with that.

My DD reacted badly to it too. I am allergic to zinc in creams and plasters so that would follow with the whole titanium thing. I faint if I touch callamine lotion, its a comedy allergy.
