I suggest, if you really feel they are wrong, that you eat as much wheat as possible for three months then go back.....I did this after a normal blood result and the next showed coeliac which was confirmed with a biopsy. Good luck.

should have put a bit more detail. it's my 3 yo son that has the problem. my main worry is his weight loss. he has lost a kilo in the last 6 months, he was only on the 9th centile to start with and is now heading back towards 0.4th centile.he has been off the bottom of the scale before due to pyloric stenosis ( operated on) so i really want the problem sorting sooner rather than later. i understand the blood test is 95% accurate, but is a biopsy full proof of coeliac?

mallet, the blood tests are known to be unreliable in the under 5's - there are also people of all ages who have neg bloods but pos. biopsy. Many GPs do not know this.

DD was diagnosed at age 5, having stopped growing, being on 0.4 centile having been a 10lb baby !! she was also extremely anaemic (more so than I was when i had a haemorrage after birth of dd and needed 3 units of blood!)

DD 2 was then aged 3 and DS was a baby. Dd2 tested neg, DS was tested at 12 months and was neg but mildly anaemic.

Gp was firmly of the opinion they are NOT coeliac, but having researched and found that the test is unreliable in under 5's (confirmed by coeliac uk - ring them, they are very helpful)and having printed off the article to SHOW the GP, i have pushed for them to be regularly retested, esp DS, who remains borderline anaemic with no explanation, he loves his meat so much we call him the little carnivore! he is retested for iron every 6 months as a decline might be a first sign of coeliac

do not change your LO's diet without first being seen by a dietitian as it can make testing later on even harder
