My son, coming up for 3, is severely (epipen) allergic to:

Wheat
Rye
Eggs
Cashew and pistachio nuts
Certain fish

Anyone with the same/similar allergies to compare notes with?

He has eczema (under control with steroid cream) and asthma (inhaler)

Hi

I am new on here and frantically messaging everyone!!! So happy to find out that there are other people out there!!!

I have a 16 month old who is allergic to nuts, cats, bananas, wheat, milk, egg, soya, amoxacillin and also has persitant eczema. We only manage to control his eczema with steriod cream - we usually have a 5 - 7 day treatment, get him sort of clear then have 7 - 10 days clear, then the eczema all comes back again.

I avoid a whole host of other foods as his eczema flairs after eating them - probably not allergic, but make him rip at his face and then it bleeds like mad!

He got hold of a sip of his sisters milk the other day and I experinced his first bad reaction - choking, vomiting, face swelling, hives etc. It was the most scary thing that I have seen - I was just a goldfish looking at him not knowing what to do. We now have an epipen on order!!

It would be good to talk -

Rebecca

dog
food with vascoactive amines ( like raw tomato, etc)

cats
tree pollen
dustmite

( has out grown hay fever, tree nuts and cooked egg allergy)

psychomum5 · 11/04/2009 00:35

not a chld (altho my children are allergic to milk and pollens)....

I however am allergic to

milk (well, dairy in general....cheese, cream, yoghurts etc)
apples
tree fruits
grass
tree pollens
house dust mite
cats
dogs
rabbits
tomatoes
penicillin
eurythromycin
trimethoprim
cycilzine

DH made me an omelette last week, with butter in it (my mistake), and needed to stab me with the epinpen and call me an aumbulance. it is scary, I won;t deny, but you know what, it is eays to get used to eventually..........as long as people take you seriously instead of thinking you make it us (my aunt).

I appreciate you are fretting, and scared, but please believe me when I say that you can have a good life with these allergies, even tho you need to constantly be aware of what people are trying to feed you

psychomum5 · 11/04/2009 00:36

not my mistake.........................*BY mistake!!

Academicmum · 11/04/2009 10:25

Our list for DS1 (4 years) is:
eggs,
peanuts,
cashew nuts,
tree nuts,
grass pollen,
tree pollen,
penicillin,
kiwi
Thankfully he is not anaphylactic for any of these but scores either 4 or 5 (out of 6) for all with a RAST test.

For DS2 (11 months old) so far he is anaphylactic for dairy, but we have been told to avoid eggs and nuts until he is at least 3 because of his older brother's allergies. We are in the process of getting an epipen for him.

trixymalixy · 11/04/2009 14:16

My DS is allergic to

dairy
eggs
sesame
soya
beans
lentils
chickpeas
beans
prawns
cats

We are also avoiding all nuts.

mummyjayjay · 11/04/2009 14:56

Wow...I am so glad to see that other people have had problems with beans! My son had a reaction to baked means as a toddler (is now 9) and no-one appearred to beleive me at the time..looked at me as if I was barmy. He's not touched them since and is also allergic to raw eggs and as a toddler raw cows milk. He's very choosy about what he will and won't try food wise, I think as a result of having bad experiences with foods when he was little.

mummyjayjay · 11/04/2009 14:58

(blush) put baked means instead of baked beans...though they were mean to my little boy!

Academicmum · 11/04/2009 15:48

We don't give any beans (including baked beans) or peas to ds1 either because he is sick everytime he has them, though the blood test revealed it wasn't an allergy to them. Its also not a physiological reaction only because even if we hide them in food he is still sick

Academicmum · 11/04/2009 15:50

sorry, I meant psychological, not physiological

SparkyToo · 11/04/2009 19:14

My son is allergic to:

cashew nuts
various grasses / pollens

He was allergic to egg but grew out of it. The various tests he had showed a slight intolerance to milk too - but he's always been absolutely fine drinking it, so we didn't cut it out.

He also has a bit of eczema.

brimfull · 11/04/2009 19:41

ds is severely allergic to
cashew nuts
pistachios

used to be allergic to egg
hayfever
asthma
eczema

He is 6.5

smoggie · 11/04/2009 20:05

severely allergic to
cashew
pistachio

Allergic to
grass pollen
egg (not baked - outgrowng slowly)
?kiwi

Outgrown
Wheat

Outgrowing exzema but mild asthma is getting worse.
Needs cetirizine for hayfever ++ from now until October.

trixymalixy · 11/04/2009 21:11

mummyjayjay, beans are in the same family as peanuts so it is qite a common allergy.

i must say it's nice to hear that kids with multiple allergies have grown out of some of them.

MetalMummy · 12/04/2009 00:16

DS (6yrs) is

severely allergic to (has epipen)
beans
prawns

allergic to
dustmites
tree pollens
grasses

tested positive to peanuts on both RAST and skin prick tests but a year later passed a peanut challenge

eating wheat and milk used to make his eczema flare up really bad but managed to reintroduce them gradually
eczema is getting better but still needs creams
asthma is under control with inhalers

has chronic rhinitis which we are trying (and failing)to get under control with nasal sprays, antihistamines and singulair

ChrissieNZ · 13/04/2009 11:32

My 4yr old daughter is allergic to:

dairy
egg
nuts/treenuts/peanut
chickpeas
dustmites

Has hayfever (antihistamine twice a day), asthma (preventer twice a day) and mild ezcema. Has epipen as has nut allergy combined with asthma, specialist says this makes more likelihood of anaphylactic reaction.

Husband allergic to tomato and I'm allergic to penicillin, sulpha drugs, all grasses in NZ, cats, dustmites.

So far 7mth old only has very mild ezcema. Yippee .

Do you get Orgran or Free From products in UK? We get them in NZ and a lot of their products are wheat/gluten/egg/dairy/nut free.
