Has anyone's dc's allergies become more heightened during teething?

Ds2 has suddenly become really sensitive to dairy when he used to be able to tolerate foods containing some dairy (cakes, butter on toast)

He now gets a red rash immediately and gets distressed. I'm really hoping its to do with teething (his molars are coming out) but could he now be more sensitive to dairy?

What age is he?

Unfortunatley it could be that repeated exposure has made his allergic reaction worse.

A lot of things that my DS used to be OK with he now can't have e.g. soya and beans.

I hope it is just teething, but I suspect not.

Sorry!

Thanks.
Hes 17 months. I thought he'd grown out of it but obviously not then.

How old is your ds? It's interesting to hear others experiences.

He's 25 months and developing new allergies all the time .

I had hoped he would have started growing out of them by now.

Sorry to hear that.
I've read that about 80% of children grow out of their dairy allergies by the time they are 5 so there is still hope!
I think its when their immune system is more developed so is better able to deal with it.

I'm living in hope!!

I think it's common to grow out of the allergies if it's just eggs and dairy that they are allergic to, but given the extent of DS' allergies (eggs, dairy, sesame, chickpeas, lentils, beans, soya, prawns) it is a lot less likely that he will grow out of them.

I hope your DS grows out of his!

Thanks though I suspect he may have suddenly developed an allergy to lentils.
I'll have to try it one more time to be sure but I think the last 2 times he had lentils, he started trying to scratch his lips and cried

My ds2's eczema definitely used to flare up when he teething. My theory is the teething upsets his digestive tract, which then allows more of whatever allergen is bothering him (might be soya but not 100% sure) through.

Since Christmas I have been giving him probiotics every day and this has really helped his gut - no more of those really awful teething nappies and terrible nappy rash, however bad the teething gets. His eczema has also almost disappeared which may or may not be related.

Our doctor's comment on the pro-biotics was 'it won't hurt to try' so if you are really desperate....

Thanks wb - in what form are you giving the probiotics in?

And how old is ds2? Just wondering as many children grow out of allergies by 4,5.

Sorry Wintersun - only got back on line this morning.

Ds2is now 13 mo. His eczema started at 4 months. I was very keen to tackle it straightaway as I had horrible eczema as a child (until age 12).

The probiotics he takes are in capsule form but I just split the capsule and mix the powder into his food. He is taking Lactobacillus GG.
