frosties

My dd ate a box of frosties last night (last thing she ate before bedtime) and then was really sick several times til about 10pm. She finally stopped when all the food was out her stomach and she was bringing up clear liquid.

This was the first time she'd eaten frosties and I've now seen the warning 'may contain trace of peanuts' on the box (she's been sick because of nuts before, when she was smaller, and I have never given her since)

Has anyone ever seen frosties cause this kind of reaction? I'm not sure if it was them but it doesnt seem to be a bug as she's fine this morning and didn't have a temperature or anything. And she didn't eat anything else unusual.

I've always avoided Frosties because of the Crunchy Nut Cornflakes link. If you look at various boxes of Kellogs most don't have the peanut warning so I took that to mean they probably use the same machinery as Crunchy Nut but not for others which is why the warning is specific to Frosties.

Maybe someone will come along who knows more about the production lines..?

I must say, as I was being force fed them last night I did think they tasted like crunchy nut cornflakes. That makes a lot of sense, I think we'll definitely stay away from them in future.

Chickenmama - if you think your dd is reacting to traces of nuts please take her to the doctor and ask for allergy testing. If she is allergic it is better to know for sure and get proper medical support and advice.

Thank you, wb, I didn't realise it was something I should mention to the doctor. I've booked her in for an appointment next week.

The last time it happened she ate a cashew nut she found and was instantly sick, so I've just avoided nuts ever since.

if she is reacting to food with nut traces, its quite possible that she may have a severe allergy.
you need to check this out and work out where you stand.

You need to take her to the doctor peanut allergies can be life threatening and the previous reaction doesn't guarantee a non- dangerous reaction this time. She needs an epipen

Wow, now I'm feeling a little bit guilty for not taking her sooner. I honestly didn't realise it was so serious.

The episode she had the other night was horrible - it happened about 30 mins or so after she'd eaten the frosties, and she was violently sick several times. It was horrible to watch. I thought it might have been a tummy bug but she was fine once her stomach was empty and had no signs of any sickness later that night or the next day. So I definitely think it's nut related.
