Im taking grazax, started a month ago..
Get the tingling under the tongue and feel like a lump is under there after I have taken it but seems to go after a short while.
Have had sore throat for 3 weeks but not sure if thats related or not.
What side effects is your DC having?

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 17/03/2009 17:31

Initially none, now the lump under the tongue for about an hour afterwards. Have given him piriton which seems to help - tomorrow am going to try giving the piriton in advance to see if we can ward it off.. ( am hoping the side effects mean somethign biochemicla is happening which will be ultimately beneficial..{grin]

The consultant at royal brompton said that in some cases the side effects get worse over time.. I never had the lump thing at first but do now.. Mention it at the check up..

Hope it does work..

My son is suffering badly now and I am thinking I will ask about this treatment. Last year he was really bad during his GCSE's
This year he has AS levels and I am worried that he will be bad again.
Can this be prescribed by GP's?

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 18/03/2009 15:27

Hi - you need a GP referral - my son is also being treated at the Royal Brompton - we had to start earlier this month in order for it to start working for this summer, so it is probably too late for your DS this year

It takes alot to be let onto the Grazax. The consultant at the Brompton said when I saw him that only 4 out of a hundred had been allowed by their primary care trusts to be put onto it as its £80 for a packet.. money money money..
I know there was alot of fighting between my PCT and the Brompton but it all came good in the end..

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 19/03/2009 15:45

Yes, RH, I forgot that - I had to get a leter from my GP to agree that the PCT would continue to prescribe and pay after the inital first month provided by the RB.

Hi. I have just done a search on MN and found this old thread. Would love to know how your DC is now MrsGuyofGuisbourne as my DS had his first dose yesterday at St Thomas'. He has itching in his mouth with some swelling too and vomited so not the best start. We have been asked to cut the tablet into quarters for the next week to build up more slowly. He is only just 5 so very young. I am very nervous about giving him his next dose but will give him Piriton half an hour before.

Would love to hear anyone else's experience especially if positive.

Many thanks

Hi, I have been taking Grazax for over 2 years now. The first dose at the hospital had little side effects but did have severe swollen/itchy tongue for a while. Now occasionally slight itching in the mouth. The benefits outweights any side effects. I am interested in knowing how anyone get the children on Grazax on NHS. I am trying to get my DD on it but GP just keeps prescribing her antihistamine tablets/eye drops that don't work and unwilling to consider Grazax. Many thanks.

Hi we were the same with our son. In the end we paid to go privatley to see a consultant allergy specilist as our GP didn't think it was worth seeing anyone. When we saw the consultant she agreed that he should see someone at St Thomas' under the NHS. Our son has now been taking Grazax since February and has had the most brilliant summer doing so many activities outside that we didn't think possible.
