Help. I know nothing about diabeties and just want to be sure I don't do the wrong thing.
A little girl is coming to DS's 4th party next Tuesday and I need to organise the party bags asap. She is diabetic and I need any ideas that anyone would have. Please!

Why not stick to completely non edible items?

Give them all a book or some bubbles instead.

Hi my DD has type One diabetes, nothing is off limits for her as she is on an insulin pump but a small chocolate item would be preferable to a bag of sugary jelly tots or something like that...chocolate is higher in fat therefore has a slower effect on making sugars rise.

Regarding party food, it would be good if you could offer no added sugar squashes...party food in general is ok for Diabetic children, her parents will be able to adjust her insulin accordingly (or correct her later).

Its really nice you're considering her needs and not wanting her to feel different

I'd just do non edible party items.

A friend of dd's is on a hospital resticted diet and she is very good about sweets and things at parties, shw swops them with her big brothers for favours (eg they become her slaves!!!) or for a treat at home she is allowed.

I was thanked by her parents though for fixing our pass the parcel by using a different colour paper for a layer with a toy, not sweets in.

my cousins boy is diabetic and he normally has the same bag as everyone else, he knows he cant just eat it all at once and my cousin gives him a bit each day. i also got him a bag of diabetic sweets to put in the bag for him.

That's really considerate of you
You could ask her mum what she's allowed.

I have been a diabetic for over 30 years and agree with lulorose, just do a normal bag rather than those vile diabetic sweets, which are worse for you with all that saccarine etc.
Just wink at the parent and say, 'I did normal bag, hope that is o.k.' - they will prob be used to it, and more than grateful.
