Does DH have a beef allergy?

My DH has never had a problem with beef before, but last Thursday I made a beef casserole with beef from the butchers, which we have not used before. The next morning he was covered in a hivey sort of rash, which looked really awful, but went away after a few hours. Last night we ate the leftovers of the casserole and he had the same sort of rash this morning, although not as bad. Could it be the beef, or is it more likely to be something else?

what did you put in the casserole?

wotulookinat · 22/02/2009 18:24

Nothing unusual. Carrots, butternut squash, mushrooms, a pepper, onion and a sachet of casserole stuff. And the beef, of course.

more likely to be the casserole mix. Have you used it before?

tinytalker · 22/02/2009 18:33

I'm sure it's the casserole mix too. Does it have celery in? Or celery salt/flavouring?

wotulookinat · 22/02/2009 19:18

I've thrown the packet away, but I shall have a look when I next go to the supermarket. DH says he has eaten celery in the past with no problems, but you can just develop an allergy, can't you?

could be mushrooms, onion or pepper.

most likely the packet mix.

or could it be the casserole just raised his body temperature?

Google Food Detective.

wotulookinat · 22/02/2009 20:27

what is it in the mix that people can be allergic to?

Well it looks like it might not be the beef afterall - DH woke up with the rash again this morning.
I am wondering if it could be an allergy to a plant that I have. I have a little Christmas Cactus on the bedroom windowsill, and it it is currently in bloom.
