Hi

Just interested in symptoms of soya allergy - gave DD who is 12 months old some soya yoghurt then read in my book that allergy to soya is quite common and can range from mild to severe. She is fine but no minky nappy yet so just thought I would find out the symptoms so I can watch out.

Same as other for other allergens really. Any or all of : itchy rashes, hives, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach aches, swelling of face/throat, breathing difficulties eg asthma, eczema, loss of consciousness. Most of these would of course manifest themselves within a few minutes/hours of eating the soya so if you've not had a reaction yet I'd not worry about it.

Friend of mine's toddler had several runny poos a day and griping tummy pains that turned out to be soya allergy.

My DD is severely intolerant to soya and cows milk.

If your child is intolerant to cows milk I believe there is a 60% chance of probs with soya.

DD gets incredibly constipated with soya to the point where I have to "help" her go (sorry TMI)

She is 12mths and I have been told that hopefully she should out grow it by age 2

I just got a Food Detective intolerance test kit online for about £42. You have to get a pinprick of blood which was a bit tricky (DS thought it was more funny than painful but that's him ) but it showed up cow's milk v strongly for him. I have always suspected this (chronic diarrhoea and eczema) but didn't want to try an elimination diet completely blind. Feckin paed and GP were not interested and wouldn't refer him for tests so I did it myself.
