Severe allergic baby - looking for childminder/nursery

I realise this is a bit random - but thought I would post this question just in case by some chance, someone reads it who lives locally to me...

I am looking for a childminder/nanny/nursery in the N8 (crouch end) area in London and as my little boy has severe allergies, I am naturally concerned as to finding care I can trust. If anyone lives locally, would love any feedback.

Thanks

not in your patch, but just thought I'd share how the nursery my dc go to deal with allergic children. DD can't have anything with cows milk in it - she wears a little clip on badge all the time which says "i am [miniwitch] please check that my food does not contain any cows milk products"
They have never had a mishap, and they have had all three of my dairy-free children. I just hope that you find somewhere as fantastic

i would choose an experienced childminder over a nursery with a high turnover of young and inexperienced staff any day - at least you know the same person is dealing with your child every day.

not all nurseries have a) inexperienced staff, or b) staff turnover.
ours doesn't.
Childminders who we used couldn't get to grips with the idea that cows milk occurred in biscuits, pancakes and all kinds of things.

A childminder with experience of children with allergies would certainly be a good bet, but it depends upon your chances of finding one.

If you haven't already done so, a post in the Childminder's part of MN would be a good idea.
I'm a CM with a mindee with possible allergies being investigated now, but sadly too far from you, good luck.

One thing that might be reassuring to you is that there are so many children with allergies that the general awareness of the importance of avoiding foods has risen dramatically. I was very nervous about putting dd into a nursery but actually the staff have been incredibly well informed, far more so than family members, and I have had confidence in them in the year she has been there.
I think that you will get the best impression of how they will manage her allergies by visiting them and discussing it wih staff. Of course there are other very important things you will be looking for as well such as care an fun etc. I think anaphylaxis UK or allergy UK (I forget which) publish some guidance about what to ask which I found helpful. Also good nurseries are happy for you to come in several times to reassure yourself.
Good luck!

Hi,
My youngest has a very restricted diet and we found Active Learning in Tivoli Road to be great with his diet. A lot of the children there are allergic or intolerant it seems.
They each have a placemat with their picture on saying what they can't have.
It was a lovely nursery, he only left as he was staring pre-school.
