'May contain a trace of almond' ...

Bought a packed of dairy free chocolate drops for party bags of dairy-allergy child. Had been hoping it might also be good for nut/egg-allergy child and was feeling quite smug ... but then saw (too late) that it said 'May contain a trace of almond' ... so I guess that rules them out as an option for a nut-allergy sufferer yes?

Wasn't disputing the nut bit ... was querying the 'may' and 'trace' bit. But I guess you don't gamble with someone else's child's allergy so back to square one for me.

yes it's a tree nut
my ds is allergic to tree nuts

some kids may only be allergic to peanuts but probably avoid all nuts

M&S guarantee nut free I believe...maybe try them?

brimfull · 08/02/2009 12:51

As a parent of an allergic child I think it's lovely that you are taking the time to check these things I am always really grateful.

Snowstorm · 08/02/2009 12:53

Great - will go and have a dig around in M&S. Thank you for the tip!

actually I think M&S have changed their supplier, their stuff now has nut warnings on them

brimfull · 08/02/2009 12:58

kinnerton chocolate is the only stuff that is guaranteed nut free.
You can buy it in waitrose.

Or just get some other sweets.

Snowstorm · 08/02/2009 13:30

Yes - maybe the chewy sweets are okay - but nut-allergy child is also egg-allergy child and I'm not used to checking labels and so am blissfully unaware of what has what in it - obviously will be checking on this occasion though. Will try and find a Waitrose. Thank you.

Kinnerton? We sell the little bars in the local sains I work in. I'll try and have a look tomorrow night for you.
