Can gluten pass through in Breastmilk?

My DS is 14 weeks and exclusively BF. I have coeliac disease.

I was eating what I liked when pregnant with no side effects and read online that pregnancy can confer some immunity to the condition. Anyhoo since I had the baby I've found it really difficult to get back to a gluten free regime . I've noticed that when I do eat it, I get evil wind and the most obnoxious smelly farts, and so does DS.

Is there a chance that he is also coeliac and that the gluten is being passed to him via my milk and upsetting him?

It's the only thing I can think of as a cause of his horrible wind as it seems like too much of a coincidence.

Does anyone have any experience or information?

I am no health expert, but also have coeliac and am breastfeeding.

I found this: www.celiac.com/articles/968/1/Breast-feeding-May-Protect-Against-Celiac-Disease/Page1.html

In general it seems to breastfeed is best. I sometimes worry about my own ds but the HV says not to worry unless he is losing weight, she is keeping an eye on him. He eats food as well (inc gluten) so its a bit different. I also am diabetic and worried about passing that on, I emailed my consultant and he emailed me back his opinion, which was that all the autoimmune things were a bit different and you still pass on antibodies which help. Could you ask yours if you have one?

Sorry, not much help there but didn't want to not answer.

thanks

I asked my GP and he said it doesn't but I'm aware that GPs aren't necessarily experts on either BFing or coeliac disease.

It just seems too coincidental.

I've tried to call coeliac UK this week a couple of times but their helpline was down due to the adverse weather!
