thank you in advance for any advice.
i have started weening my six month old who has eczema. the first time i gave him egg custard with rice an hour later he came up with big red spots on his face and head which then disappeared in a few hours.
This also happened the first time i gave him formula.
could this be an allergy??and making his eczema worse??
i went to see the dermatoligist last week who advised i should wait another three months before having him tested for allergy's as he may grow out of them.
Should i wait?

Ahhh - just seen this - and I asked the very question on your other thread.
Yes - basically it could be. You should avoid allergenic foods (egg, kiwi, strawberries etc) - and maybe consider cutting down/eliminating dairy to see if it heps excema. But your dermatologist is right. There is basically no point allergy testing before one year as the results are inconsistent. But you can do your own food elimination to see what helps his excema iyswim.

You could ask your GP / HV for some support and guidance as you would need to get a prescription for non-dairy formula - Neocate is the best imho.

My daughter had a mild reaction to a birthday cake when she was 1, and after omitting all egg in her diet her very severe
eczema disappeared almost overnight.
GP advised us not to give her any egg products at all until seeing a specialist.
Whilst waiting for this appointment she
managed to get an egg from the kitchen surface which she cracked in her hand, this caused an anaphylactic shock and was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
My point is, allergies of any kind should be
taken seriously, as I feel many GPs do not,
and children are not referred to specialists quick enough.
I would push for an appointment even if it only gives you an idea of what foods to be cautious with.
They can do a simple test on the outer arm which shouldnt cause any upset to your little one. Then maybe more accurate tests can be done at a later date.
Goodl luck!

Yes, sounds like it could be egg allergy DS is the same if he eats anything with egg in (he also has eczema). I would push for allergy testing DS had it at 9mo and egg came up 'off the scale' even though at that point he had only had a mild reaction to it.
