Eczema - recommeded emollients?

My 10 week old ds has seborrhoeic eczema on his face and neck, and the GP has advised using an emollient - anyone got any tried and tested products to recommend?

We had problems with epaderm and doublebase - I think due to the fact both contain paraffin. They just made ds3's skin go really red and tight.

We've found the best cream to be Boots Sensitive Baby Moisturising Cream. Been using it for about 3 weeks now and it has suited his skin much better than anything prescribed.

I managed to completely solve DD's ezcema with just a couple of drops of pure lavender oil in a bath full of water. One treatment and she stopped itching. Two treatments and it was gone! Felt quite miracuous at the time! Had this treatment recommended by another mum who had lavender oil work on her DD.

I stress it was just two drops in a bath full of water and NOT applied to the skin directly and if you're tempted to try, do check with a health professional first. Wish you well.

I've found that I have to change every couple of months or so. DD is 15 months old and flares quite frequently. Have tried all the emollients and the pure potions stuff.

A few weeks ago she was particularly bad so I started wet wrapping her again at night (bandage outfits on prescription). Then I read a thread on here about frequent bathing with oilatum or such like being the latest recommendation.

So I've switched from bathing twice per week with plain water to nightly with Oilatum followed by Aveeno lotion and it has improved considerably. Have to use steroid cream every couple of days when she gets red and sore patches.

I'm sure I'll need to switch again in a few months but I'll try anything if it looks like it's working.

We've found this quite good:

Can't say it's totally removed the Eczema (as my nearly 2yo little boy currently has a flare up, which is making me finally decide to go to GP and see about steroids), but it's very soothing, cooling and helps with the itching a lot. I've been using it since the end of December and my little boy will beg for his "medicine" (the Beelief stuff) and get very upset if he thinks it's lost or can't find it. But the way he reacts with such joy to the idea of putting some on his sore feet/leg/hands/face/finger makes me realise it must be quite good!

None of the prescription emollients worked for DD1.

I found her eczema was diet related - I stopped her having dairy and white wheat and it cleared up. I also put her on a fish oil, an acidophilus and voila tricola. Massive difference. I use Green People's Baby Salve on her skin - its quite greasy but really makes a difference. Porridge oats tied into a piece of nylon tights, put into the bath also helps. I never use soap on her, but do use shampoo (again Green Peoples lavendar shampoo). She has been eczema free since last April and can now tolerate the odd bit of cows cheese or yoghurt without triggering an outbreak.

Olihan, I recommended the pure potions skin salvation as I had tried most things and it worked wonders. I think its the hemp in it.

My DS2 has dry eczema in winter which is very itchy and keeps him awake.

I have heard very bad things about using steroids for long periods. It 'thins' the skin apparently.

We use a zinc cream called Sudocrem.

It has a red label with white writing in a big grey tub and you can get it from Boots. Smaller tubs are available if you are travelling and do not want to lug a big tub around.

Put plenty on before bed. Put a thinner film of it on in the morning. Get it on as soon as you see the first signs.

Its good for nappy rash too. Used it for years and its cheap too.

There is a magic cream on the market, it is better than anything you get on prescription as an emollient. We bought it in France when we ran out years ago and have never used anything else. If we use it twice daily faithfully (and avoid other irritants) then we are able to control my daughter's eczema so that it never flares up badly. It is Aderma Exomega face and body cream and costs about £10 per large tube, which lasts us about 2-3 months.

Not sure if anybody has come across the arbonne abc range. I have seen wonderful results on kids using it. It is a totally natural product and I can put you touch with parents for personal recomendations.
