Multiple allergies - need a recipe for a dessert - no eggs, wheat, corn, seeds or soya

A friends DS has multiple allergies and they are coming for lunch in a couple of weeks. We have sorted out a main course that he is safe to eat but I cannot find a recipe for a dessert that he can tolerate and I would really love to make something that he can enjoy apart from his usual jelly

We know that he is allergic to eggs, all nuts and seeds, wheat, barley, rye, corn, sweetcorn, soya, fish, peas, beans, pulses and shellfish - even traces of any of these can start a severe reaction. He is OK with dairy, rice or potato flour, buckwheat and millet

I tried looking online but can't find a single recipe that doesn't contain at least 1 of the items on his danger list. I am a pretty competent cook but not clever enough to think of anything that I can make.

Does anyone have any clever suggestions or can suggest somewhere I can look online for a recipe because I would love to have a go at making something but it feels like an impossible task?

A bit of a cop-out, but I know there are "chocolate" lollies you can buy (I've seen them in the Co-op and I'm sure Waitrose would have them). My niece eats them and she's allergic to dairy, eggs, wheat and nuts. Not sure what's in them but I'm guessing none of the things you've mentioned. Sorry I don't know the name but they're in the "free from" section of the Co-op.

Coconut milk rice pudding.

Fruit crumble with gluten free flour.

Chocolate custard made with bird's eye custard powder, cocoa powder and rice milk.

If you can get hold of some oatly cream (Tescos sell it) there are recipes on the oatly website for ice cream, that's assuming he can have oats.

It's lovely of you to try so hard!

Fruit pie with gluten free pastry (available in most supermarkets).

how about this if he is ok with dairy then there are plenty of similar options.

trixymalixy · 21/01/2009 13:52

Oh I missed that he was OK with dairy!!

How odd for him to be allergic to all that but OK with dairy!

What about cheesecake with a base made from wheat free biscuits?

DebsCee · 21/01/2009 14:52

Thank you so much to everyone that has replied.

Yes, very lucky to be OK with dairy - he gets pretty much all of his fat from milk and butter I believe.

I think I'm going to try and get some wheat free biscuits and make a cheesecake, so long as the biscuits don't have anything else in that he can't have! It must be so hard for his mum, I've only been looking at ingredient lists the last couple of days and it's a nightmare. Something that is wheat-free or egg-free then has another ingredient like corn or nut traces that he can't have. The poor boy has so many allergies that finding something with none of his reactors in is tricky to say the least.

I will try and get everything I need for the cheesecake and as an alternative a fruit crumble. Thanks again everyone

crumbles and steamed (microwaved) jam/syrup pudds are good made with rice flour, the coarse texture suits them.

watch out with the WF biccies for cheesecake, most contain soya, some things even contain pea flour and i see he can't have peas. You can again make own shortbread type biccies with rice flour, ice them or dip in choc for a special treat

Done a thread recently asking how far people go with the corn allergy. Not had alot of help with my dd's by just being told to avoid corn. Sounds easy, however researching into it, corn is in majority of things just to warn you. My dd is not anaphylactic to it but is meant to avoid it. We do our best but she does have it in things under the name of maize starch sometimes. Look out for corn flour ect. Everything seems to have some sort of maize in (different name for corn) If he is very sensitive I think you will need a good chat with his mum. Dont forget wotsits are maize and also most crisps have maize starch. All soups have it and look out for the custards. Not sure on birds but I know i brought a kraft Triffle the other day and the packet custard had corn flour. They say it can be unlisted in things as a thickeners sugur syrups ect. or even as anticaking agents? mind blowing. Esp when you start out being told dont eat corn!

There's a fake icecream called Swedish Glacce. They sell it in the supermarkets and comes in vanilla, chocolate or strawberry. It's not too bad.

chloesmumtoo · 29/01/2009 17:06

oh if you do do anything with jam. To be safe I have a corn free one which is called clearspring organic fruit spread in Strawberry. I get it from my local health food store. I have in the past purchased it online somewhere too Dietry Needs Direct I think? But not sure. I got it due to cutting down on the maize as most jams contain glucose fructose syrup which could possibly contain it

chloesmumtoo · 29/01/2009 17:36

Swedish Glace contains soya georgiemum.

georgiemum · 29/01/2009 17:46

Bah - sorry. Fruit and honey?

chloesmumtoo · 29/01/2009 17:49

lol. Tricky one. Used to my own dd's multiple allergies but not so familiar on the wheat soya and egg ones.

cuppachar · 30/01/2009 11:59

just saw this.... how about trifle - jelly, fruit, custard (made with Bird's custard powder, which doesn't include eggs) and cream.
