Milk allergy/intolerance? Dr not convinced!

My 2 year old DD has had terrible constipation since she was around 6 months old and began having cooked cows milk in food. On the advice of the Health Visitor I increased fruit and drinks and cut out bananas and eggs but it made no difference. I was prescribed baby Gaviscon which didn't help along with various alternative remedies. It finally stopped this year when we went to the US on holiday and she didn't like the milk and wouldn't drink it. She now has very little milk but plenty cheese and yoghurt but her constipation has ended. I asked my Dr if semi-skimmed milk be an alternative but he says he's never heard of this reaction to milk and seemed a bit unconvinced. Had anyone else experienced anything similar?

I was told by health visitor that milk can cause constipation and DS1's constipation lessened considerably when I got him off drinking milk

My DD got terrible constipation when she started cows milk at 12 months and she was also on Gaviscon for reflux. It was the Gavi as when I took her off it she was fine again. In the meantime I gave lots of apple and this did help. I was convinced it was the gavi with the cows milk that made her constipated.

Doc thought I was a mad raving worrying moaning overeacting mother of course....

FWIW my DD (2.1) was allowed more milk product over Xmas as part of a trial (ok with yoghurt). She had chocolate and ice cream made from cream, and had awful constipation until 2 weeks after I'd stopped all the extra dairy due to sudden eczema appearance.

live yoghurt has good bacteria and that has been shown to help with digestive problems. Sounds like the sort of milk intolerance that will be outgrown, probably in a year or so.
