Catering advice needed(Long)

My dp,who is an excellent cook, has been asked by a friend to cater for her 8 year old dd's party.

Friends dd is allergic to dairy, and one of the children invited to the party is allergic to nuts.

When dp accepted the request, he knew only of the dairy allergic child, now she's told us about the friend who is allergic to peanuts.

Now dp would like to do the catering for this, busy as he is, he enjoys it, however he's concerned that as we aren't a nut free home, that he'll accidentally contaminate the food.

He's suggested a few precautions, a few weeks before the party, we'll remove all nut products from our home, disinfect and thoroughly clean every surface, dp is planning on using new utensils and plates/containers to prepare and store the food.(Partly an excuse to buy some new ones I suspect)

He will of course check labels on all ingredients.

He's now wondering if that's enough, as he's terrified of the possibility that he'll endanger the life of the boy who has a severe nut allergy. He can go into shock if nuts or their residue make contact with his skin.

I'd appreciate if MNs could tell me if they'd be happy with those precautions, and if so, if there are any other precautions he should take. TIA.

Bumping for you.

I would be happy if:

-food did not contain nuts (obviously) or traces of nuts and was not produced on a line/machine that had been previously used to prepare nuts (check labeling).

-All surfaces, pots and utensils were cleaned/wiped (normal washing up liquid, clean counter cloths will do) prior to food preparation.

-No nuts were got out in the room were food was prepared during preparation

-Food was sealed eg in tupperware after preparation, to prevent possible contamination

I would consider these measures extremely adequate - I don't think you need to de-nut your house for weeks in advance.

If the above was not adequate I guarantee you he is so sensitive that he will be bringing his own food to the party.

Thankyou, sounds like he'll be ok then.

DP does tend to take things a bit too far, when he washes his hands, you'd think he was about to operate on someone, but perhaps we won't use or open any nut products for a few days before, just as an extra precaution.

We'll carefully check all labels for traces of nut and dairy produce.

He's going to prepare only vegan food to make it easier and so that both children are able to eat everything that is served.
