Would a fleece sleepsuit irritate my DD's excema and psoriasis?

Or one of them? I've got a thread going about gro bags and big beds and someone mentioned they use sleepsuits as an alternative, it seems very sensible but would it be too unnatural a material for someone who gets very bad excema on her face? The psoriasis is on her legs and elbows so not such a big problem as it would be covered by her pjs.

You can get grobag duvets btw - not sure if you knew that

used2bthin · 30/12/2008 14:16

Hello! Yes thank you I have seen them I am hoping to avoid it as they are pricey and would need a couple I'm assuming in case one needs washing. Oh the expense of all this DD would choose christmas time to need a bed!

I tell you what I've done with DS - long johns - I put them under his babygro..so, he has a long sleeved vest, long johns, baby gro and a cardi...that way, when he kicks his duvet off - he's still in a cot but with cot duvet, he's still warm iyswim?

used2bthin · 30/12/2008 14:26

Yes that is a good idea, DD actually has some long johns. Well they are pjs from Gap but they look like long johns and would work the same. Is the cardi that might be a problem as wool irritates her face. You know those poppered cardis you get in sets for newborns to go over the babygro? Cotton things? I wonder if anywhere akes them for bigger children too?

They vary so much in what sets them off - my ds had bad eczema including around neck and chin but he has been fine in the fleece sleepsuits e.g. from sainsburys Tu range. I don't think it is the natural-ness of the fabric that matters for him but the softness, and fleece is usually v soft plus quick drying so I am a fan!

Thanks Heliotrope I could try one of the TU sleepsuits and hope its the same for DD maybe. She reacts to wool if it is proper wool but cotton mix type seems ok.

low dustmite, and cotton clothes for my itchy family..............

MetalMummy · 02/01/2009 03:29

My DS can't wear fleece sleepsuits, it's not the fleece itself that is the problem (used fleece liners in his nappies with no problems), it's that he gets really hot when he wears them and that makes him itch.

used2bthin · 04/01/2009 14:58

Sorry just seen the replies. Yes I think she probably would get too hot actually as she gets really hot anyway at night. Ok so no fleece sleepsuits for her. Mothercare had some lovely padded cotton ones actually for anyone else who is looking for them. I am struggling with DDs skin atm as her creams seem to do nothing even the eumovate seems to have stopped working.

Good thinking, our house is freezing cold so that is probably why they worked for us! Hope the skin gets better soon.

used2bthin · 04/01/2009 21:16

Thanks I am getting desperate with it poor little thing her cheeks are raw. Will start another thread in fact!

My DS has really bad eczema too and he can't wear fleece sleepsuits because if he gets too hot he flares and itches.

I went and bought babygros because I thought he would kick his duvet off but I got him a normal single duvet and tucked the end under his mattress at the bottom.

used2bthin · 04/01/2009 21:50

Thanks yes I think I will try that or even keep her in her grobag a bit longer. DDs seems so much worse recently its awful.Certainly wouldnt want to risk it gettiong worse now.

My daughter has eczema. She wears sleepsuits made from bamboo which regulate her temperature. They are silky soft so they don't irritate her skin. Look at www.ickleeco.co.uk

you may find this eczema clothing site interesting with cotton eczema clothing. Pj's with enclosed hands feet ect. Take a look. I know things are expensive but would not be without them. They have helped dd no end. eczemaclothing.com
