Toddler Eating problems and very windy botty! help!

God, where to start? Sorry it's long.
DS is 14months. Has always suffered from wind (bottom type) especially at night. He wakes writhing and screaming in agony. I stopped giving him cheese in the afternoon and this seemed to help a lot. Also, lots of other things seem to make it really bad, e.g. bananas and bread. Also, lots of veg like cauli and broccoli and leeks. Even if I eat these he still suffers via my breastmilk!
I'm really at my wits' end as he's now started being really fussy about what I do give him and not eating much at all. I want to give him more things he can feed himself, but so many things seem to be off limits.
Occasionally, i wonder whether I'm mad and it's just coincidence and caused by something else?
Would the doctor take me seriously if i took him? Worried they will just think I'm neurotic!
Help and advice welcome!
thanks

Sorry to hear about this SalBow.

Veg like broccoli etc always gives me a windy tummy anyway. Could you cut them out for a bit and give other veg like butternut squash, sweetcotn that aren't from those vegetable families?

Dairy, Bananas and gluten/wheat are very common things to be allergic to. Can you keep a food diary so you can pinpoint exactly what foods set off these symptoms?

As you are still breastffeeding, you could try cutting out dairy for a bit?

In my experience GPs are fairly unsympathetic, but I would definitely go and see if you can be referred for some allergy testing.

SalBow, OMG - snap! My DS is 18 months and exactly the same! My DS1 I think was the same, but as I breastfed him to 2 years plus, he seemed to cope better at night (quick feed, quick wind, straight back to sleep). It is definitely not caused by lactose intolerance (have tried lactose free milk and it made him worse). Not dairy - he spent 2 months without solids whilst teething and the wind/sleep was better. I can't say that my food diary suggests any other intolerance, other than he is intolerant to food in general. Certainly is not allergic to anything. My GP says that he is fine for age.. It is wind for which there is no cure. In a way, I wish it were an allergy as I could do something about it.
I have made the decision NOT to limit any of his food choices, other than to offer brocolli etc. earlier in the day. He is too fussy to cut out foods and certainly would not accept alternatives (unless he wants to).
What I do know is the problem is to do with his stomach valve. I can hear bubbles guggles in the night and if I massage the area the wind moves out either end. I suspect it is something to do with his birth/delivery (had pre-enclampsia, both boys very banana shaped at birth.. apparently this can temporarily damage the valve). What I am going to do next (as I am so sleep deprived I'm on the brink of depression) is take him to a homeopath, as from scanning the web on toddlers with similar symptoms this seems to have worked for others.
PS DS1 who was very fussy up to about 3 years old is now 6 and eats really healthily and is strong as an ox. Your DS will thrive, but it would be great to ged rid of this wretched wind. Let me know how you progress... fingers crossed for a swift solution for you.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies!
Trixy - I have actually cut out these veg for quite a few months now. DS actually went orange (from caratenemia) because all I could think to give him was orange veg! haha!
I haven't actually done a proper food diary yet, good idea.
Am still bf, but only x2 per day and want to stop this completely (want to be able to eat sprouts at xmas!).
As I suspected re GPs, but will give it a go.

Julial - it's a nightmare isnt it! Sorry you're having a bad time too. No I don't think it's dairy. I might try homeopathy, thanks will look at this on MN. My DS tummy is very bubbly too.
The funny thing is it all got a lot better for a while, and I do sometimes wonder if it's caused by teething, he just got his first molar.

thanks for taking the time to reply.
