Does anyone have any experience of Food Detective food intolerance self test ?

I have recently been diagnosed with severe Endometriosis. I am following medical treatment but have also bought a couple of books about nutrition and they say that some endo sufferers may react badly to wheat/dairy/suger/alcohol so worth trying to exclude if this is the case.

I'm trying to go wheat free and finding it hard work ( any reasonable bread suggestions that don't involve buckwheat or gluten free mixes are welcome) and would really like to know if its worthwhile or not.Physical symptoms aren't really helping as because I have had a recent scrape out and am on menopause hormones I would expect the pain to be a lot less than normal any way.

The Food Detective test is £39.99 and can be done at home and can apparently test your reaction to 59 foods . I have to say I'm a bit about it, as feel it could be money for old rope. Anyone tried it, or have any opinions about whether it would work or not ?

I have a DD with true allergies and having spoken to consultant allergy specialist can assure you that allergy/intolerance tests like this and the Yoark test are a load of old cobblers. Don't waste your money. I also have a friend who works on Watchdog and they investigated these tests and found them to be totally inaccuarate (and I am very pro- laternative medicine, treatments etc etc in their correct place).

I have no experience of endometriosis - but do generally beleive that the majority of us would benefit by significantly cutting down/excluding things like wheat and dairy (and we pretty much know that refined sugars and alcohol have little nutritional benefit, eh). I know I feel much better when I exclude/reduce wheat. I find Rye bread when toasted is lovely. Waitrose also do a wheat free bread that is very nice.

Personally, I would just take a month and try to cut out wheat - see how you feel. Next month cut out dairy - see how you feel. That's as exact as any health food shop intolerance test will be.

Thanks Turniphead1, thats very helpful.

Where do you get your rye bread ? Is it that stuff in the plastic box or is there a wheat free fresh version that I can buy somewhere ?

There is a rye bread in supermarkets (sainsbury anyway) that is in plastic film, I think it is Village Bakery - it is heavier than usual bread and can be a bit dry but as Turniphead says it is nice once toasted with some (pure sunflower!) marg on it.

I would also tend to agree about the test - better just try it by taking out the wheat and dairy for a while. Ideally do both together for one month then reintroduce one.

You're right it is very hard work - I cut out wheat, dairy, eggs, fish, nuts and soya while breastfeeding and it really took it out of me.

If you really want to do it....
Try Holland and Barrett for things like biscuits and flapjacks that are wheat free. I had lots of oatcakes and porridge made with soya milk with raisins and maple syrup. Dark chocolate, dried fruit, Swedish Glace ice cream substitute. Corn or spelt pasta.
If taking out dairy apparently you should have lots of green veggies for the calcium.

Thanks, I will have a look out for it, did try to make my own rye bread, but DH summed it up when he came into the kitchen during the dough making stage and noted its similarity to poo. Am not going to go dairy free at this point, think it would push me over the edge, but am cutting down on a lot of dairy products.

rookie the rye bread I have is a brand called Biona. Its not in a plastic carton, no. Some people might not like it - it has a stronger taste that ordinary brown bread but fine with dairy free spread and sugar free jam.
