it seems i'm allergic to the massive piece of fabric plaster they used to cover me up after my c-section last week... due to the pain from the section i didn't think much of it but it's only gotton worse!

it's raw, red, sore, blotchy and itchy and covers a good part of my midriff....

have a call into gp to call me, but in the meantime does anyone know of anything that dh can pick up from chemist to help relieve it?

THANKS

antihistimine?

check if your bf though?

I had this too. It was actually worse than the C-section pain! So I am feeling your pain (hugs)

I used some Camolin Lotion to help sooth it and sudacrem. Not sure if these helped heal it quicker.

just make damn sure your doctor monitors you for infections & put's you on anti-biotics if necessary!
I lived with this and numerous visits to the doctor for a whole 9 months before it eventually cleared up Well done for working out what's causing it already!

I had this too - antibiotics are no good unless it gets infected. I used the sudacrem that was in the bounty pack.
I was so cross because my c-section was an emergency and before they put me under they asked if I was allergic to anything so I told them I was allergic to plasters and they obviously ignored me! When I had my 3rd child (1st was born naturally) I made them write it in big letters on the front of my notes just in case!!!

I have had this. The most important thing is to dry out the area. You need to lay on your bed with a fan on you for as long as you can. DO NOT cover the area with gauze or bandages as it will make it worse. You may well need antibiotics as it can get easily infected.

This happened to me with my second csection. I had my third one 4 months ago and here is my warning to you: despite telling them repeatedly of what happened and having the allergy written all over my notes and talking to the consultant a few minutes before my op, I ended up with it again. This time it was caused by the surgical drape that was placed on me during the op itself. It has a sticky backing to it.

I had to really struggle to get anyone to take it seriously as the rash started to appear. HAving had it before, I knew exaclty how bad it would get, but midwifes and GP's had no idea how to treat it. I finally got the correct advice from a doctor at the hospital.

So, to recap - dry it out under a fan for as long as you can. Do not put creams on it. Possibly get antibiotics. You can take piriton for the itching. I was given this by the doctor I saw (it is safe for breastfeeding).

will talcum powder help dry it???or is that a lousy idea??

IlanaK · 06/12/2008 20:49

No, I think that would be a bad idea. Drying it under the fan worked very well. I had suffered for days, but within one night it had dried and felt much better.

I was told to use the powder they use on baby's belly button DON'T!!! Anything on it makes it worse- believe me I tried everything during that 9 month nightmare & nothing worked
