Did anyone watch this weeks School Dinners? Was everyone else as staggered as me and Jamie O by the look of him, when the school Nurse said that they did not need to give out mid-day inhalers since the introduction of his healthy dinners?

am i to assume it;s realy you jamie on our mumsnet well i am so impress you have my heart felt admiration i have two vegie kids and you go to any cafe or restaurant and you are hard pressed to get a vegetable not even frozen peas so you takling the school dinners is such a mountain to climb i wish you did my borough keep up the good work

I think I saw Jamie in London the other day. Does he still drive his scooter? Looked very like him. Almost ran out in front of the scooter in order to kiss his feet. A Knighthood is in order for sure.

Was amazing to hear what a difference the food made to those children's health. What a crying shame that government cannot embrace the ethos and provide those extra pence.

He has gone up in my estimation 100% and I already thought he was ace!
I have long since refused school dinners for my son as I deemed them to be unsuitable for animals let along a child trying to learn and concentrate and grow healthy bones, air and skin and teeth.
It would be naive to think food had no relation to health, of course it does.
It is so amazing to hear of such small advances having such tremendous results

I was gobsmacked to read that the govt spends 70p on a meal for prisoners and only 37p on our kids, a bloody disgrace!

Doesn't surprise me. And did you see their faces when he showed them what chicken nuggets were made of! I used to think, "Oh MacDonalds is OK once in a while" That completely chnaged my mind!

HM... I know.... I can't believe people (and I am sorry if I offend anyone) believe feeding crap to their kids is a treat??? That is just unbelievable, what has this world come to?... it is sad that kids feel that Mc D and other junk places are better than any other more conventional restaurant too.....

Well, I for one will always look at MacDonalds as a treat! Sorry, but for an occasional visit, and depending on what you eat, I don't see the harm. Its guaranteed to calm and soothe the most hysterical child, and parent too! Everything in moderation I say. I watched the programme last week and was highly impressed at what he is trying to do, and indeed the results so far, but I think he is a complete tosser - the fact that he is jumping on the Gordon Ramsay bandwagon and saying the f word as much as he can really annoys me. He didn't have much idea of how to talk to children either. Intensely irritating. Personally I think he appears far too much on our screens, but that's just me. Don't mean to offend those who love him!

I've missed the programmes and I'm gutted but will watch Parky tonight.

My dd is only 17 months but I have worked really hard and tried so much to give her the best and as a result she is a brilliant eater, will eat a vast range of foods and is very healthy.

For her to start school and just be fed processed meats and deep fried c!!p really does p**s me off!!

My 11 yr old son thinks he is awesome, he likes the way he talks to kids, and cheffing is a highly stressful occupation, so swearing is not just for Gordon Ramsay!
McDonalds as a treat, neither of mine think it's a treat, my son would die if made to go there, he detests it

I watched this week and thought he was marvellous. He is just so passionate about getting kids to eat good food. I do bring my kids to McD's now and then and will still do this but no way would I want them to eat it every lunchtime fgs which seems to be basically what will happen if the budget per head isn't increased. As he suggested food should be discussed in school so kids start to make informed choices for themselves. As for the need for inhalers reducing so dramatically - lost for words really

He may get a bit too much media coverage and p**s people off but I think he is an absolute star! Made me larf that Charles Clarke obviously didn't think the crap food was too bad - I'm sure he would have scoffed the lot - surprising that he scoffed all the food - "who ate all the pies etc."

Pretty crappy that Ruth Kelly being a mother of 4 didn't keep the momentum going and bowed to her 'Treasury Head"

Sadly for anyone that thought I might be JO (?!) I am just another Mum like you all, concerned about the food that is served up in Schools (and Brewsters, MD's) etc...
